About Us

First Tool Group (FTG) is a precision manufacturing company serving demanding customers across industrial and consumer markets. Through our family of divisions — JMM, FTC, DMC, FTE, and Amco — we deliver precision components, tooling, and machining solutions that our customers count on. We’re growing, and we’re looking for a detail-driven Quoting/Estimating Specialist to help us respond to opportunities quickly, accurately, and competitively.

The Role

As our Quoting/Estimating Specialist, you’ll be the engine behind our proposals — translating customer prints, RFQs, and specifications into accurate cost estimates and winning quotes. You’ll work closely with engineering, operations, sales, and purchasing to understand what it takes to make a part and price it right. This is a high-impact role: the quality of your estimates directly shapes our win rate, our margins, and our customer relationships.

What You’ll Do
  • Review customer RFQs, engineering drawings, models, and specifications to fully understand part requirements and scope
  • Develop detailed cost estimates covering material, machining and labor time, tooling, outside processing, and overhead
  • Prepare and issue clear, professional, timely quotations to customers
  • Collaborate with engineering and production to validate manufacturing methods, cycle times, and routing
  • Source and obtain pricing from suppliers for materials and outside services
  • Maintain and refine estimating standards, cost databases, and quoting templates
  • Track quote activity, follow up on outstanding proposals, and support win/loss analysis
  • Partner with sales and leadership on pricing strategy for key accounts and new opportunities
  • Support continuous improvement of the quoting process for speed and accuracy
What We’re Looking For
  • 2+ years of experience in quoting, estimating, or cost analysis in a machining or precision manufacturing environment (CNC machining, tooling, or fabrication preferred)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and specifications
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and shop-floor operations
  • Comfort with estimating labor, cycle times, and material costs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP/MRP or estimating software a plus
  • Sharp attention to detail, strong math and analytical skills, and the ability to juggle multiple quotes under deadline
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with customers and internal teams
