Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking an Experimental Physicist Postdoctoral Fellow to develop optical interconnects between diverse qubit systems and demonstrate a distributed quantum network. The role involves building/operating laser-cooled neutral-atom and rare-earth-doped crystal platforms, and integrating with trapped-ion systems.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will define experimental/engineering pathways to scale heterogeneous qubit technologies for distributed quantum

Formación

• PhD in physics or a closely related field.
• Experience with qubit platforms such as neutral atoms, rare-earth-doped crystals, or trapped ions.
• Experience designing/implementing optical interconnects for quantum networks.
• Hands-on work with ultra-high vacuum and cryogenic systems; laser stabilization and optical control.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills for interdisciplinary teams.

Responsabilidades

• Build and commission new experimental apparatus for laser-cooled neutral-atom and/or cryogenically cooled solid-state qubit platforms.
• Develop and maintain experimental control systems, including hardware and electronics.
• Perform experiments involving multi-qubit optical interconnections for quantum networking.
• Analyze experimental results using numerical and computational techniques.
• Collaborate with theory teams to support experiments and develop new ideas.
• Provide feedback to engineering and architecture teams for scalable implementations.
• Mentor students and disseminate results through publications and talks.
