Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory seeks an Experimental Physicist Postdoctoral Fellow to help develop optical interconnects between qubit systems and demonstrate distributed quantum computing. You will build two platforms—laser-cooled neutral atoms and rare-earth-ion-doped crystals—and connect them to existing trapped-ion systems, with aims of remote entanglement and quantum gate teleportation.

The role requires hands-on experimental work, data analysis, and close collaboration with theory

Qualifications

• Experience with laser-cooled neutral atoms or rare-earth–ion-doped crystals.
• Hands-on experience with ultra-high-vacuum and cryogenic systems, coherent laser systems, and experimental electronics.
• Ability to analyze experimental results and collaborate with theory teams.

Responsabilités

• Build and commission new experimental apparatus for laser-cooled neutral-atom and/or cryogenically cooled solid-state qubit platforms.
• Develop and maintain experimental control systems, including hardware and electronics.
• Perform experiments involving coherent manipulation of multi-qubit platforms and their optical interconnections for quantum networking.
• Analyze experimental results using numerical and computational techniques.
• Collaborate with theory teams to support experiments and develop new ideas.
• Provide technical feedback to engineering and architecture teams for evaluating large-scale implementations.
