Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA seeks a Postdoctoral Appointee in the Materials Physics Department to explore novel quantum phenomena and design microelectronics devices for AI and quantum computing.

You will lead device characterization, perform fabrication using lithography, and conduct measurements at cryogenic temperatures, presenting results at conferences and publishing in high‑profile journals. Onsite work with some travel.

Qualifications

  • PhD in semiconductor physics, condensed matter physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or related field.
  • A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic device fabrication (including e-beam lithography).
  • Experience with 3He and dilution refrigerator cryogenic systems.
  • Hands-on experience with low-temperature transport measurements.
  • Experience with superconducting device physics.
  • Experience with III–V compound semiconductors and topological quantum materials.
  • Experience with semiconductor device and circuits simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead device characterization and performance; develop understanding of novel device physics.
  • Perform micro- and nano-scale fabrication using lithography techniques.
  • Conduct low temperature transport measurements and data analysis.
  • Operate cryogenic systems including 3He and dilution refrigerators.
  • Present results at national/international meetings and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
