Job summary

GlobalFoundries is seeking a Device Modeling Engineer to develop, validate, and deploy predictive models for superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, and other emerging quantum-enabled devices. You will translate device physics into simulation-ready models and libraries for QPDKs and heterogeneous integration.

The role requires a strong physics foundation, 5+ years in device modeling, and hands-on experience with at least one non-CMOS device class. Traveling up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of experience in device physics, device modeling, multiphysics simulation, parameter extraction, or characterization of non-CMOS devices.
• Strong foundation in semiconductor and solid-state device physics with ability to translate physical behavior into predictive models.
• Hands-on experience modeling non-CMOS device classes (e.g., Josephson-junction devices, SQUIDs, superconducting resonators or interconnects, waveguides, modulators, ring resonators, photodetectors, lasers, cryogenic structures).
• Experience correlating models with measured data and defining validation criteria across ranges.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or equivalent in Linux/Unix; experience with Verilog-A or SPICE subcircuits.
• Familiarity with multiple simulation environments (COMSOL, HFSS, Lumerical, Cadence, etc.).
• Ability to clearly communicate technical conclusions to cross-functional teams.
• Travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Develop physics-based, behavioral, and compact models for superconducting and other emerging devices.
• Plan model-extraction and validation workflows using electrical, optical, RF, and cryogenic data.
• Correlate model behavior with measurements and identify limitations.
• Define device structures and parameters for scalable models across conditions.
• Implement and validate models in circuit and photonic environments with regression testing.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to translate technologies into design capabilities.
• Prepare technical reports, application notes, and design reviews.
