Job summary

Trane Technologies in Colorado seeks an Engineering Test Technician to interpret test plans, connect and run chillers, and evaluate performance. You will gather data, troubleshoot issues, and document results while interacting with customers and agency representatives.

The role requires basic electrical and refrigeration knowledge, good communication, and hands-on dexterity. A 2-year technical degree is preferred; shifts and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of electrical laws and ability to read wiring diagrams.
  • Basic understanding of refrigeration, thermodynamics, and fluids.
  • Good communication and customer‑first attitude.
  • Willingness to coach others and share information.
  • Good manual dexterity and experience with hand tools.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating environment.
  • Relevant 2-year technical degree preferred; however, relevant experience may substitute.
  • Must be willing to work all shifts and flex to meet demand.
  • Some overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret test plans and conduct complex engineering testing with minimal supervision.
  • Read shop floor paperwork including SEIs and hook up, start and run chillers.
  • Determine if chillers meet performance requirements.
  • Use selection programs to determine fouling compensations and gather data.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, fix and document improperly operating chillers & test loops.
  • Interact with customers/agency representatives in a positive manner.
  • Perform TPMs on all run stand systems.
  • Report any suspect sensors or controls.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area.
  • Use and maintain a variety of hand tools.
  • Train others on Engineering Test Technician duties.

Where is the work:

On-Site (5 days)

Position Description:
  • Interpret test plans and conduct complex engineering testing with no direct supervision.
  • Read and understand shop floor paperwork including SEI’s.
  • Hook up, start and run chillers.
  • Determine if chiller meets performance requirements.
  • Use selection programs to determine fouling compensations, Trane Techview/Tracer TU, and the Factory Talk to gather data and evaluate chiller performance.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, fix and document improperly operating chillers & test loop.
  • Interact with customers/agency representatives in a positive and professional manner.
  • Perform TPM’s on all run stand systems.
  • Report any suspect sensors or controls.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area.
  • Use and maintain a variety of hand tools.
  • Train others on Engineering Test Technician duties.

  • Must be willing to work all shifts and flex to satisfy customer demand.
  • Some overtime may be required.
2026 Base Pay Range (for Colorado Residents): $24.97 - $32.01 Based on experience.
