Job summary

Amsted Automotive Group, SMW Manufacturing in Taylor, Michigan seeks a Quality Technician to inspect and verify product quality. You will perform dimensional checks, ensure calibration of measurement equipment, and confirm parts meet customer and engineering requirements.

Responsibilities include defect tagging, reading blueprints, testing at various production stages, and collaborating with engineering to uphold quality standards.

  • Interpret drawings and confer with management to ensure quality standards.
  • Select products for tests at production stages and evaluate dimensions, performance, and mechanical characteristics.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment as needed.
  • Take directions and perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Amsted Automotive Group, SMW Manufacturing, Taylor, Michigan, is looking for a Quality Technician to join our Team. In this role you will be responsible for inspecting and verifying product quality by performing dimensional checks, ensuring measurement equipment is calibrated and functioning properly, and confirming parts meet customer, engineering, and quality requirements. Also ensure production, calibration, setups, layouts, and customer returns are properly maintained and identified.

What You'll Do
  • Examine material or product for surface defects such as cracks, pits, and burrs extra and able to tag product when defective.
  • Compares product with parts list or sample model to ensure completion of assembly.
  • Verifies specified dimensions of product or material.
  • Rejects defective parts, and marks type of defect on part, container of parts, or inspection tag.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, diagrams and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance and mechanical characteristics.
  • Operates any diagnostic equipment needed to perform job.
  • Able to take directions and perform all other duties as assigned.
What Else You'll Need to Know
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Work Experience required
  • Associate's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering preferred; but not required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment and excellent work history.
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and competence with GD&T
  • Ability to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint as well as current technology software familiarity.
  • Proactive, positive attitude, safety and environmentally focused.
  • Ability to regularly stand or work for long periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly lift/or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and occasionally lift to fifty (40-50) pounds.
  • Occasionally moderate walking throughout the plant daily.
