Job summary

Wabtec in Kansas City is seeking a Quality Technical Adviser (QTA) to enhance quality objectives through leadership and technical proficiency. This role includes developing strategies for defect reduction, conducting quality audits, and improving manufacturing processes.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience in quality assurance, and must be skilled in statistical analysis and communication.

Salary for this role ranges from $68,900 to $98,200 alongside additional benefits.

Job description

How will you make a difference?

The Quality Technical Adviser (QTA) will demonstrate leadership and technical proficiency in identifying and developing strategies to meet quality objectives (e.g., ensure compliance to drawings and specifications, reduce defects and associated scrap, improve productivity) for assigned product line(s).

What do we want to know about you?
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 5 years of quality and/or manufacturing experience).
  • Prior manufacturing operations experience, preferably assembly operations, fabrication/welding, and/or machining.
  • Prior experience in areas of quality control and assurance such as: New Product Introduction and change management actions impacting component manufacturing operations, including the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • High sense of urgency, understands importance of timeliness.
  • Incoming material control, process control, systems performance, product evaluation, MSA, metrology, automated testing, and software.
  • Ability to conduct internal and external quality audits to recognize improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to identify and implement effective CA / PA plans.
  • Six Sigma training/certification, or equivalent Quality training.
  • Proficiency with programs such as Excel, Minitab, SAS, Access and ability to apply statistical methods to analysis of Engineering problems.
  • High attention to detail and ability to comprehend technical documentation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Willingness and ability to be on call and work off-shift hours (Primary work hours are 1st shift).
What will your typical day look like?
  • Utilize experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and work to achieve short-term and some long-term business goals.
  • Prioritize and implement multiple concurrent process improvement projects, alone or as part of a multifunctional team, to improve quality and/or productivity.
  • Analyze production limitations, then develop, implement, and evaluate quality assurance process sampling systems, procedures, and statistical techniques to track the progress of improvement efforts.
  • Oversee evaluation of test equipment, precision measurements, accuracy measurements, and performance testing.
  • Work with Material Review Board to disposition nonconforming material and devise remediation actions.
  • Work with New Product development teams to approve new production/services used in product realization.
  • Work with Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to resolve quality issues related to existing suppliers and new suppliers.
  • Conduct and receive training on quality assurance concepts and tools.
  • Perform audits of operations for compliance to quality requirements.
  • Work with Material Review Board/Manufacturing to ensure welding sequence, machine settings and required tools meet drawing requirements.
  • Collect, organize, monitor, and distribute information for the Company and to customers/suppliers related to product quality and process improvement.
  • Specify, develop, and accept advanced technology, quality information, and test equipment.
  • Provide advanced Quality Engineering of new product introduction involving new processes or advanced automated equipment.
  • Act as consultant (recognized authority) to the Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering organizations to improve Quality and Manufacturing processes, introduce new products, and improve product design.
  • Manage organization’s cost superiority and investment program and compile and report designated measurements on quality and cost.

  • Exposure to shop floor requires wearing PPE.
  • Walking, climbing, stooping, bending, lifting is all part of the hands‑on learning process.

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location.
