Job summary

NDC in Athens, Alabama is seeking a Quality Specialist to oversee quality assurance processes in line with ISO/TS 16949 standards.

You will actively participate in Advanced Quality Planning (AQP), address customer quality concerns, and lead investigations on quality issues. The ideal candidate will hold a relevant degree and have a substantial background in quality assurance within a manufacturing environment.

This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and offers opportunities for professional development towards certifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years of quality experience or Master’s degree plus 1+ year of experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with ISO/TS 16949.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Material Review Board (MRB) for quarantined material.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Active participation in Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) for products and processes in assigned areas.
  • Regulate and update the process control documents in assigned areas (Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, Product and Process Inspection Plan, Measurement system work instruction).
  • Act as Customer liaison; communicate containment and corrective actions to the customer using methods such as G8Ds, PRR, NCT, eCIMS, SCAR, and F-M TiPS.
  • Coordinate special containment activities at the customer site and follow up on results until permanent corrective action validation.
  • Initiate and lead a cross‑functional team to identify root causes for all internal and/or external problems, conduct corrective action follow‑up, and share lessons learned across similar processes/products.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis on all internal and/or external problems using statistical problem‑solving methods (e.g., D.O.E., ANOVA, Regression Analysis) to prevent recurrence.
  • Communicate quality‑related issues to plant personnel through Quality Awareness Bulletins (QAB) and promote quality awareness throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Lead or participate in collecting, analyzing, and summarizing scrap, rework, and warranty data; manage continuous review and research of product/process quality improvements to positively impact indicators.
  • Lead the Material Review Board (MRB); analyze and dispose of quarantined material.
  • Write and update standard operating procedures that control Quality Assurance and Measurement Systems.
  • Weekly review of customer‑specific websites (Covisint, GM Supply Power, Chrysler eSupplier Connect, PLEX); identify and report discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Provide training to employees in the assigned area to improve quality outcomes.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and ISO TS/16949 audits; plan, assure, and implement quality measures associated with engineering changes (ECRs).
  • Develop and maintain Layered Process Audits (LPA) and Error‑Proofing Validation (EPV) lists in assigned areas.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years of quality experience or Master’s degree plus 1+ year of experience; alternatively, 5+ years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: Mandatory experience in a manufacturing environment with ISO/TS 16949; thorough understanding of advanced SPC, D.O.E.’s, FMEA’s, control plans, process/product capability analysis, APQP, and specific customer requirements. Minitab statistical software is preferred but not required.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate with customers, engineers, and operators; strong grasp of problem‑solving methodologies (G8D, PRR, 7‑Step, 3L5W, Deep Drill, Wide); proficiency with Microsoft computer platforms and software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to train/teach others.
  • Certifications: Six Sigma Black or Green Belt preferred; ability to obtain ASQC Certificate.
Physical Demands
  • Light work; no heavy lifting; occasional bending, reaching, and standing.
  • Moderate travel may be required.
