Job summary

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking a Shop Supervisor to lead daily manufacturing operations, oversee quality inspection, and drive process improvements on the shop floor. The role emphasizes safety, training, and cross-functional collaboration to meet stringent quality standards.

You will spend about two-thirds of your shift supervising activities, ensuring metrics are met, and coaching team members. 1st shift, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, in Arlington, TX.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment plus 5 years’ experience in machined parts inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed information on part prints and customer specifications; CMM experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow and safety compliance.
  • Oversee employee performance, coaching, feedback, and evaluations.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees and ongoing skill development.
  • Prioritize inspection activities to meet quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and communicate issues.

Quality Supervisory Basic Skills
  • Department Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with timekeeping and performance management procedures.
  • Employee Management: Oversee employee performance, provide coaching and feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to support team development and productivity.
  • Training & Development: Assist with onboarding and training of new employees, as well as provide ongoing education and skill development for the team.
  • Workflow Management: Prioritize inspection activities through the department to meet Martin and/or customer quality standards and expectations.
  • Cross-Department Coordination: Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure smooth workflow, adherence to standards and specifications and effectively communicate back to manufacturing when standards are not met.
  • Workplace Safety & Maintenance: Ensure the team maintains tools and equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner, addressing safety concerns promptly.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiencies and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
  • Problem-Solving: Address and resolve production or personnel issues promptly to avoid disruptions to operations.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.
What You'll Bring
  • Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience in machined parts inspection.
  • Technical Expertise: Preferred experience in one or more of the following areas: Ability to read and understand detailed information on part prints(Blueprints) and customer specifications and CMM Machine experience preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to motivate, guide, and develop team members to achieve individual and collective goals.
  • Shop Floor Presence: Ability to maintain a consistent and active presence on the shop floor, spending approximately 2/3 of the shift overseeing operations.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with shop employees, office staff, supervisors, managers, and executives.
  • Adaptability: Able to adjust to changing priorities and unexpected challenges while maintaining productivity and focus.
  • Team Collaboration: Excellent team player with the ability to work well with others and foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
  • Safety Leadership: Strong commitment to workplace safety, with a demonstrated ability to promote and enforce safety standards and practices.
  • Performance Management: Proficiency in performance management processes, including creating plans of action and conducting employee evaluations.
  • Detail Orientation: Highly detail-oriented, ensuring quality and precision in all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Multi-Tasking: Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively throughout the shift.
  • Math Skills: Average math skills, with the ability to read and comprehend written instructions in English and complete logs, documents, and reports accurately.

  • 1st Shift, Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
