Job summary

A leading packaging solutions company is seeking a Quality Engineer to enhance supplier quality and drive continuous improvement. You'll manage quality activities, oversee inspection processes, and work cross-functionally to ensure compliance and effective resolution of customer complaints. Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor's in Quality or Chemistry and a strong background in food packaging standards.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in food processing and/or packaging.
  • Proficient in quality auditing procedures.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, TQM, H.A.C.C.P, and Six Sigma.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Internal Quality Assurance activities and direct quality inspectors.
  • Implement centralized quality data collection system.
  • Create and maintain customer specifications and quality gauging.

Seda North America, recently certified as a Great Place to Work, is a subsidiary of Seda International Packaging Group, a state of the art, air conditioned, food safety clean facility that designs and produces innovative paper packaging solutions, using paper as an environmentally sound choice in building unique bonds between brands and consumers products which include unique insulated coffee cups and food industry containers.

The Quality Engineer works with cross functional teams to manage supplier quality issues, raw material specifications, Customer Complaint resolution, compliance initiatives and trending of available process data for identification of improvement opportunities. Main focus of this role is the remediation of customer complaint trends. This role also plays a significant role in championing supplier related quality activities and related issues that create opportunities for improvements throughout the facility.

Specific Duties

  • Manage the Internal Quality Assurance activities including directing Quality Inspectors and Quality Hold processing.
  • Create and maintain centralized customer specification system.
  • Implement and maintain centralized quality data collection system.
  • Analytically evaluate machine processes to provide information and direction for quality improvements, including designed experiments and process capabilities studies.
  • Create and maintain necessary quality gauging for the floor.
  • Create and implement ‘fit for use’ tests, as needed, for existing and new product lines.
  • Facilitate QPM troubleshooting teams, utilizing analytical analysis.
  • Provide quality leadership and vision.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Maintain high quality standards and support food safety/quality systems.
  • Ensure compliance with work safety standards.
  • Serve as backup to Quality Director in case of absence or vacancy.
  • Perform additional job duties as required.

Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or technical equivalent, preferably in a quality or chemistry discipline, with at least 3 years’ experience in food processing and/or food packaging manufacturing environment.
  • Systematic and methodical approach to tasks and problem solving techniques.
  • Experience with quality systems and auditing procedures.
  • Ability to lead teams and develop a continuous improvement culture.
  • Experience in developing personal and team development programs.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • ISO 9001 – Ed. 2000
    • TQM (Total Quality Management)
    • TPM – Total Productive Maintenance
    • Electronic data capture
    • H.A.C.C.P (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points)
    • S.P.C., Six Sigma
    • ISO 22000
    • ISO 14000
  • Proficiency in standard computer packages (Excel, Word, Outlook).
