Qualifications

• RN with current unrestricted state licensure.

Responsibilities

• Partner with physician leadership to develop anesthesia-related quality initiatives.
• Use Lean and Six Sigma to facilitate anesthesia related quality improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with anesthesia providers and staff to understand clinical and business processes and define the scope of quality improvement initiatives.
• Identify any aspect of quality projects that may need IRB review.
• Review anesthesia performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
• Evaluate documentation to determine compliance with policies and guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Condense complex information into a clear clinical picture and communicate findings.
• Report audit or clinical findings to ensure appropriate outcomes and follow-up for improvement.

Locations

Employee works with University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology’s Safety, Clinical Outcomes, Research, and Effectiveness (SCORE) program to improve safety and quality of medical services provided by the Department. Working closely with SCORE Patient Safety and Quality Manager and physician safety and quality leaders, uses clinical knowledge and experience to evaluate opportunities for improvement. Uses performance improvement methodology, tools, and techniques to facilitate clinical process improvement teams. Supports the structure, organization, and culture for continuous quality and operations improvement in the Department’s clinical missions.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Master’s in healthcare or related field preferred.
• RN with current unrestricted state licensure required.
• 2 years of perioperative nursing experience, with active participation in clinical quality improvement or patient safety work required.
• Experience in Six Sigma/Lean Sigma Green Belt, IMPRV, Lean, or TPS preferred.

Job Functions

• Partners with physician leadership to develop and maintain anesthesia related quality improvement initiatives that are closely aligned with Department of Anesthesiology organizational goals and have significant potential for impacting anesthesia practices.
• Uses advanced quality improvement techniques such as Lean and Six Sigma to facilitate anesthesia related quality improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with all levels of anesthesia providers and other clinical and administrative personnel to understand clinical and business processes and define the scope of quality improvement initiatives.
• Works with faculty leadership to identify any aspect of quality projects that may need IRB review.
• Reviews anesthesia performance metrics, including consensus recommendations of the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI) and the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG), to identify areas for improvement.
• Reviews documentation and evaluates potential quality of care issues based on established clinical policies, procedures and protocols.
• Evaluates documentation/information to determine compliance with clinical policy, regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
• Condenses complex information into a clear and precise clinical picture while working independently.
• Reports audit or clinical findings to appropriate staff or others in order to ensure appropriate outcome and or follow-up for improvement as indicated.
• Completes mandatory employee health, workers compensation, HR processes and other training and requirements in required time frame to ensure compliance with all FPI rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelors or better in Nursing. Masters or better in Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
