Job summary

East West Tea Company is seeking a Quality Operations Manager to lead quality systems, drive food safety and regulatory compliance, and partner with Manufacturing to ensure product quality and traceability. The role balances Quality Management System work, continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring a team in a fast-paced production environment.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in a related field, be PCQI certified, and have at least five years in regulated industries with

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a biological sciences, food science, chemistry, or related field.
  • PCQI certification is required/perferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in a regulated industry (dietary supplement/food/drug).
  • At least 2 years of direct people management in a quality environment.
  • Strong knowledge of 21 CFR Part 111 & 110/117.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve Quality Management System (QMS) programs affecting Food Safety and Quality (CAPA, Internal Audit, nonconforming materials).
  • Partner with Manufacturing to ensure records/reports for product compliance are accurate and accessible.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and drive continuous improvement.

The Quality Operations Manager will maintain excellence in manufacturing, ensuring that products meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements. Responsible for implementing and improving quality and food safety systems, monitoring performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN:

Quality Management System 40% of time

  • Creating and updating procedures, policies, and standards for quality assurance, control, and compliance
  • Maintain and verify QMS programs which impact Food Safety and Quality including, but not limited to Food Defense, Process Control, CAPA, Internal Audit, Nonconforming Materials, and Foreign Materials Control
  • Effectively partner with Manufacturing to ensure all relevant records and reports are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible for product compliance

Continuous Improvement 40% of time

  • Identifying opportunities to enhance product quality, improve processes, and reduce defects
  • Partner with departments like production, engineering, and customer service to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions
  • Regularly inspecting products, processes, and facilities to ensure compliance with quality and food safety standards and regulations (including GFSI, ODA, Customer Kosher, Organic, and FDA audits)
  • Ensure equipment qualification/ validation procedures are available, current, and adhered to

Leadership and Team Development 20% of time

  • Keeping up-to-date with industry standards, legal requirements, and customer expectations
  • Design, deliver, and document operational quality training to Quality and Production personnel involved with direct product handling
  • Lead and mentor direct reports by providing resources, coaching and staffing support

WHAT YOU KNOW AND HAVE EXPERIENCED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences, food science, chemistry or a related field
  • PCQI certified
  • 5 years of experience within the dietary supplement, food, drug, medical or related regulated industry
  • Minimum 2 years of direct people management or team leadership experience in a regulated quality environment
  • In-depth knowledge of 21 CFR Part 111 (dietary supplement cGMP) and 21 CFR Part 110/117 (food cGMP/ FMSA)
