Job summary

Roskam Foods, founded in 1923 and headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, seeks a seasoned quality leader to drive GFSI/SQF accreditation and oversee food safety programs. You will lead a quality team, guide inspectors, and develop corrective actions to ensure compliance and continuous improvement across multiple facilities.

The role requires extensive experience with HACCP/PCQI, FDA/GMPs, and data-driven quality management, plus strong communication with clients and government agencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide cross-functional leadership for SQF accreditation and risk assessments
• Lead and manage a quality team and ensure resources are engaged
• Supervise inspectors and staff with guidance and feedback
• Develop action plans, leverage resources, drive process improvements
• Drive KPIs for food safety and quality and implement CAPA programs
• Manage product identification, traceability, and non-conforming product procedures
• Deliver and manage training materials and represent policies to customers and agencies
• Maintain documentation and perform statistical analyses
• Liaise with internal teams and external parties on safety, quality, and defense

Position Description and Purpose:

Key Essential Functions/Duties:

• Provide cross functional leadership for GFSI (SQF) accreditation (SQF Practitioner), conduct risk assessments, develop and implement preventive controls and verify/validate food safety and quality programs effectiveness.
• Lead and manage a quality team and ensure resources are actively engaged
• Supervise and develop inspectors, technicians and other staff and provide guidance and feedback
• Develop specific action plans, leverage internal resources, improve processes and deliver results
• Drive attainment of Key Process Indicators for food safety and quality
• Implement a corrective and preventative action program
• Manage product identification and traceability programs
• Oversee non-conforming product/equipment procedures
• Deliver and manage training material
• Professionally represent policies and procedures to external customers and governmental agencies.
• Deliver continuous improvement (reduce/prevent internal failures, deliver right first time)
• Manage food safety, food quality, and food defense plans
• Provide risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies
• Identify/develop critical controls to reduce risk
• Verify effectiveness of critical controls and procedures
• Prepare reports on food quality status to relay to owners and upper-level management
• Keep accurate documentation and perform statistical analysis
• Identify critical food safety and quality issues and escalated appropriately to upper-level management
• Liaison with internal departments and external parties on matters related to food safety, quality & defense

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

• HACCP and/or Preventive Controls Qualified Individual training or relevant experience
• Demonstrated people and team leadership skills (5+ years of supervisory experience)
• Strong working knowledge of quality systems (5+ years of food safety/quality system management)
• Demonstrated experience with GFSI quality system implementation and management
• Experience with FDA and GMPs
• Strong interpersonal skills to include team building and oral communication
• Strong customer facing and presentation skills
• Strong project management and planning skills
• Demonstrated data analysis and statistical process control skills
• Demonstrated accomplishment in the area of continuous improvement
• Strong documentation skills
• Coaching and talent development experience
• Proficient in MS Office and strong computer literacy skills
• BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Food Science or a related scientific field
• Demonstrated SQF implementation skills
• Food defense training or relevant experience
• Strong regulatory awareness in the food sector
• Knowledge in Sanitation Programs
• Experience with Environmental Monitoring Programs
