Employment Type: Full-Time Direct Hire

A growing precision machine shop serving aerospace and defense customers is hiring a Quality Manager to lead the quality function and team. This is a hands-on leadership role in a small, fast-moving environment where you'll have real impact and visibility. This role ensures the shop's products, processes, and documentation conform to AS9100D, applicable customer specifications, and regulatory requirements, while leading a team of inspectors and quality staff to drive continuous improvement, reduce nonconformances, and support on-time, first-pass-quality delivery. If you have an inspection or machining background and transitioned into quality, this role is built for you.

  • Maintain and continuously improve the AS9100D-certified Quality Management System, including internal audits, management review, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes
  • Serve as primary liaison with the AS9100 registrar/certification body and lead or coordinate external audits and surveillance visits
  • Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities, including First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102
  • Develop, review, and approve inspection plans, quality procedures, work instructions, and control plans
  • Review and interpret customer purchase order requirements, drawings, and specifications for quality/inspection flow-downs (including special process and ITAR/export control requirements where applicable)
  • Investigate nonconformances, customer complaints, and returns; lead root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5-Why, fishbone) and drive corrective action to closure
  • Manage the calibration program for gages, inspection, and test equipment
  • Maintain material and process traceability records, Certificates of Conformance, and device/part history records as required by customer or contract
  • Track, analyze, and report quality metrics (scrap rate, on-time delivery quality, audit findings, cost of quality) to leadership
  • Prepares weekly Team Meetings to report performance metrics, FOD issues, safety alerts, and QMS information to all employees
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate quality department staff (inspectors, QA technicians), serving as an escalation path when needed
  • Support engineering and production in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), PPAP-style qualification, and new part introduction/first-run activities
  • Coordinate supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and approved supplier list maintenance
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S) affecting quality and process capability
  • Maintain document control and records retention in accordance with AS9100D and customer/contractual requirements
  • Prepare for and support customer quality audits and on-site visits
  • Exposure to CAD software and capable of creating basic drawings

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of progressive quality experience including 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
  • Hands-on mechanical inspection experience
  • Proficiency with GD&T and blueprint reading
  • Experience with CMM and standard inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges)
  • Aerospace or defense manufacturing background, highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of AS9100D and ISO 9001
  • Statistical process control (SPC) and root cause/corrective action methodologies
