Job summary

Steel Technologies LLC is seeking a Quality Assurance professional to administer and evaluate mill and customer rejects, reviewing root causes and initiating corrective actions. This role emphasizes quality planning, control plans, and ISO/IATF16949 compliance.

Candidate will work with operators, leadership, tech services, and sales to resolve quality issues, assist in training, and participate in internal/external audits. Office and manufacturing environment; safety-sensitive workplace.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a related field or 2–4 years of quality experience in an industrial environment.
  • Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency is demonstrated.
  • Knowledge of ISO and IATF16949 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, process and evaluate mill and customer rejects.
  • Review scrap and rejects to identify root causes.
  • Initiate corrective action for quality problems.
  • Reassign mill claimed denied/non-conforming product.
  • Generate and issue all mill debits and credits, reject notifications.
  • Support quality planning with APQP/PPAP submissions as required.
  • Ensure implementation of control plans and FMEAs.
  • Apply statistical tools, IMTE requirements, calibrated equipment and MSA applications.
  • Interact with customers and outside sales for resolutions of quality concerns.

Job description

1. Administer, process and evaluate mill and customer rejects

  • Review scrap and rejects to identify root cause(s)
  • Initiate corrective action for quality problems
  • Reassign mill claimed denied/non-conforming product
  • Generate and issue all mill debits and credits, reject notifications

2. Manage quality planning functions, including maintenance of facility quality documentation, assistance in APQP and/or PPAP submissions, as required

3. Ensure effective implementation of control plans and FMEAs

4. Manage the application of statistical tools, controls IMTE requirements, ensuring calibrated equipment and MSA applications

5. Communicate with operators, leadership, tech services, sales, and purchasing as necessary regarding quality issues

6. Assist in the training of personnel on customer quality requirements and rejects

7. Interact with customers and Outside Sales for resolutions of quality concerns and assists with customer quality visits as needed

8. Represent facility during internal/external quality audits

9. Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements

  • Knowledge of quality systems, production methods, and performance objectives
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic

  • Ability to accurately use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers
  • Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to see details at close range
  • Ability to correctly retrieve and input data using a computer
  • Ability to travel

  • Ability to routinely twist, bend, stoop, and squat
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Prefer an Associate’s degree in a related field or two to four years of quality experience in an industrial environment. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a safety sensitive position. This work is predominantly performed in an office setting with minimal to moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people. Occasionally, work will be performed in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high levels of noise due to machinery and equipment. The temperature of the facility will vary based on outside weather conditions. The use of personal protective equipment for safety compliance may be required as deemed necessary by management.
