Job summary

Steel Technologies seeks a qualified QA professional to administer rejects, manage quality plans, and drive continuous improvement on the shop floor. You will coordinate with operations, sales and customers to resolve issues and ensure compliance with ISO/IATF16949 standards.

The role requires hands-on experience with quality tools, documentation, and audits, plus the ability to train staff and travel as needed. This is a safety-sensitive manufacturing environment with strong benefits.

Qualifications

  • Prefer an Associate’s degree in a related field or 2–4 years of quality experience in an industrial environment.
  • Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency is demonstrated.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and requirements; ISO and IATF16949 standards; quality systems and production methods.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, process and evaluate mill and customer rejects; review scrap to identify root causes and initiate corrective action.
  • Manage quality planning functions including maintenance of facility quality documentation and APQP/PPAP submissions as required.
  • Ensure effective implementation of control plans and FMEAs.
  • Apply statistical tools and IMTE controls; ensure calibrated equipment and MSA.
  • Communicate with operators, leadership, tech services, sales and purchasing regarding quality concerns.
  • Assist in training personnel on customer quality requirements and rejects.
  • Interact with customers and Outside Sales for resolutions of quality concerns and during customer visits.
  • Represent facility during internal and external quality audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

1. Administer, process and evaluate mill and customer rejects

  • Review scrap and rejects to identify root cause(s)
  • Initiate corrective action for quality problems
  • Reassign mill claimed denied/non-conforming product
  • Generate and issue all mill debits and credits, reject notifications

2. Manage quality planning functions, including maintenance of facility quality documentation, assistance in APQP and/or PPAP submissions, as required

3. Ensure effective implementation of control plans and FMEAs

4. Manage the application of statistical tools, controls IMTE requirements, ensuring calibrated equipment and MSA applications

5. Communicate with operators, leadership, tech services, sales, and purchasing as necessary regarding quality issues

6. Assist in the training of personnel on customer quality requirements and rejects

7. Interact with customers and Outside Sales for resolutions of quality concerns and assists with customer quality visits as needed

8. Represent facility during internal/external quality audits

9. Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a safety sensitive position. This work is predominantly performed in an office setting with minimal to moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people. Occasionally, work will be performed in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high levels of noise due to machinery and equipment. The temperature of the facility will vary based on outside weather conditions. The use of personal protective equipment for safety compliance may be required as deemed necessary by management.
