Job summary

WestRock Company is seeking a Quality Manager responsible for developing and maintaining the quality plan that complies with ISO 9001, FSC, SFI and GMP. The role monitors the quality system, conducts internal audits, and drives continual improvements across processes and teams.

You will lead audits, train staff, define KPIs, and coordinate with management, customers, and suppliers to ensure timely reporting and documentation. A bachelor’s or master’s degree with 10+ years in TQM is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, in industrial packaging or a related field.
  • +10 years’ experience in TQM, ISO, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or Process Improvement
  • Thorough knowledge of ANSI/ISO/SFI/FSC/GMP; Quality Management Systems
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills at all levels; capable of representing the company
  • High energy, ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate and develop staff
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel)
  • Self-motivated and committed with strong work ethic
  • Excellent analytical skills and a methodical approach
  • Ability to define problems, collect data and draw conclusions
  • Ability to work independently and with teams
  • Able to drive team to continuously improve processes and foster relationships with customers/suppliers

Responsibilities

  • Formulates business strategies, plans and budgets for the department and monitors performance to achieve plant goals
  • Promotes a positive work environment and adherence to company policies
  • Supports Management Team in developing procedures and in implementing the quality system
  • Ensures quality system aligns with ISO 9001/FSC/SFI/GMP and regulatory requirements
  • Prepares, maintains, and reports internal and external quality records and analyses
  • Develops and analyzes quality records and recommends continual process improvements
  • Schedules and conducts internal quality audits and maintains records
  • Designs and implements quality process training for management
  • Investigates non-conformities and customer complaints and assists in resolution
  • Ensures timely completion of reports and documentation
  • Keeps employees informed of quality procedures and changes
  • Maintains communications with customers, suppliers and auditors
  • Provides information to customer requests with the Sales/Customer Service teams
  • Advises General Manager on department performance and concerns
  • Defines KPIs for the QA Department and reports to General Manager
  • Oversees cross-training and keeps team development in focus
  • Keeps up-to-date with developments and fosters learning and development
  • Supports safety standards and safe work practices

Career Opportunity

The Quality Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the quality plan that complies with ISO 9001/FSC/SFI/GMP. Monitors overall quality system process and recommend improvements, consults with the Management Team, participates in establishing and implementing major goals and objectives, and serves as a resource in all aspects of the quality system. Ensures quality system is effective and arranges periodic internal quality audits as well as maintaining continual improvements are in place.

  • Formulates business strategies, plans and budgets for the department and monitoring its (subsequent) performance so as to ensure that the plant goals are achieved
  • Promotes, maintains, and inspires a positive work environment of trust, respect, and support for all internal/external customers, and staff by adhering Company policies & standards
  • Supports Management Team in developing procedures and in implementing the quality system
  • Ensures that quality system is consistent with established company goals and in accordance with ISO 9001/FSC/SFI/GMP
  • In charge of the effective preparation, maintenance, and reporting of internal and external quality records and analyses
  • Develops and analyzes results of the quality records and makes recommendations to the Management Team for continual process improvement
  • Schedules and assigns internal quality audits and maintains its records.
  • Designs, recommends and implements quality process training programs to the Management Team
  • Identifies the non-conformity product or process, investigates, analyzes customer complaints regarding the quality and assists in resolving the issue
  • Ensures the timely completion of reports, records and other documentation
  • Ensures that all employees are well informed of quality system procedures and any changes
  • Maintains and/or foster effective communications with customers, suppliers, outside auditors etc. in a resourceful and professional manner
  • Ensures and monitors proactively supplier requirements by ISO standards
  • Provides information to customer requests in a timely manner in conjunction with the Customer Service and Sales Team
  • Advises, in the first instance, the General Manager at the earliest opportunity of any concerns he/she may have regarding the Performance of the department and/or its processes
  • Ensures that the entire team works towards common goals and objectives
  • Defines KPIs for the Quality Assurance Department (which are cascaded down to the individual team members) and ensure timely follow-up and delivery with monthly reports to General Manager
  • Ensures that his/her Team has the knowledge and skills, encourage their development and flexibility, co-ordinate their work and provide guidance and support whenever necessary
  • Carries out periodic reviews on what works and doesn’t work within the function & process and define solutions
  • Review on a regular basis, the processes in the Quality function with other members of the Management Team to ensure that the function is delivering what is required and expected
  • Oversees cross training takes place among the team
  • Strive for best-in-class Quality function within the Industry / Set the Industry Standard, adapting new ideas and concepts from other Quality functions in other industries
  • Keep up to date on new development and foster learning & development among the team
  • Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SWR employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.

What you need to succeed
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, in industrial packaging or a related field (i.e. manufacturing industry) preferred
  • +10 years’ experience in TQM, ISO, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or Process Improvement
  • Thorough knowledge of ANSI/ISO/SFI/FSC/GMP; Quality Management Systems
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and written), dealing with individuals at all levels; comfortable representing the company in the best possible light, using various means of communication (presentations, customer briefs etc.)
  • High energy, with the ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate & develop both senior and junior level staff
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (advanced excel)
  • Self-motivated and committed individual, strong work ethic
  • Excellent analytical skills, methodical approach and commercial acumen
  • Ability to define problems, collect data/facts and draw reasonable conclusions
  • Capable of interpreting a variety of technical instructions (manuals, procedures etc.) in different forms e.g. diagram etc.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Able to recognize the non-conformity, analyze and solve or recommend improvements
  • Ability to work with various departments (sales, operations, finance) to resolve challenges
  • Able to drive team to continuously improve processes and foster good working relationships
  • Capable of stepping back and let the direct reports handle day to day issues with their teams
  • Capable of building strong relationships internally and externally (e.g. key customers etc.)
