Arcosa Specialty Materials is searching for a Quality Lab Technician II for our Norman, OK office.

As a Lab Tech, you will organize and perform chemical laboratory tests and analyze test data for various purposes, such as research, product development, competitive benchmark performance testing, quality control, and quality assurance. The right candidate will initiate learning and develop excellent operating and maintenance techniques on analytical instruments, maintenance procedures, and training others in their operation.

What You Will Do:

  • Actively ensure lab organization and housekeeping every day.
  • Lab activities will include setting up test series, preparing and evaluating samples with a variety of techniques, and analyzing the results, presenting results to senior staff.
  • Develop new test procedures that correlate with the methodology of external experts.
  • Conduct performance and consumer testing on a variety of products, R&D prototypes, and competitive brands.
  • Methodically organize, understand, communicate, and follow up on material safety data sheets (MSDS) information.
  • Provide product information and technical support to customers as required; answer technical questions regarding shelf life, usability, and availability for use in other forms.
  • Set up and safely operate laboratory equipment including compression machine, moisture analyzer, particle size analyzer, alpine air jet sieve, and sand shaker.
  • Assist in the development of new products and product enhancements from conception through successful commercialization.
  • Learn, operate, analyze, and maintain x-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, and Leco carbon sulfur analyzer of raw materials and finished products as requested.
  • Troubleshoot experimental testing equipment and operational methods to ensure timely and quality work.
  • Maintain a current understanding of the basic functioning of the lab, including all the rules, regulations, safety procedures, documentation protocols, and equipment operation.
  • Organize work to minimize re-work, errors, improve workflow, and repeatability.
  • Proactively identify and perform other directly related appropriate duties and assume accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed-upon objectives.
  • Read, understand, and follow ASTM procedures for materials testing on raw material, production, and customer samples.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in a science or technical field.
  • Become familiar with Arcosa lab equipment operation, analytical testing, maintenance, and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • There is occasional exposure to worker hazards such as loud noises, risk of burning, high-pressure laboratory systems, fumes or airborne particles, height/risk of falling, moving objects, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The position's constant physical demands include talking, hearing, standing, leaning, repetitive motions, entering data on a computer, and using hands to finger, handle or feel; reach, and grasp with hands and arms.
  • The worker is frequently required to sit and lift/move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally required to lift/move objects weighing up to 80 pounds with assistance.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
  • This position requires occasional travel with some outdoor exposure during the workday.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment: Air-conditioned/heated office environment.
