Job summary

LAUNCH IAB in Wichita, KS is seeking a Quality Inspector (MRO) to inspect aircraft and components in a Part 145 environment, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and customer requirements. This hands-on role requires NDT knowledge and the ability to read engineering drawings.

You will perform in-process and final inspections, review documentation, support audits, and coordinate with NDT Level II/III personnel. Travel may be required; a strong safety and quality mindset is essential.

Qualifications

Position Summary

The Quality Inspector (MRO) is responsible for inspecting aircraft/components and maintenance work performed in a Part 145 repair station or MRO environment to ensure compliance with FAA regulations, customer requirements, and internal quality procedures. This role requires hands‑on inspection experience and working knowledge of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods used in aviation MRO.

• Perform in-process and final inspections of maintenance, repair, and overhaul work (airframe, structures, engine/component, or avionics—based on area).
• Verify maintenance actions comply with FAA regulations (14 CFR), repair station manuals, work instructions, and customer/engineering requirements.
• Review and approve maintenance documentation (task cards, travelers, work orders, inspection reports) for accuracy and completeness.
• Conduct/verify conformity inspections, receiving inspections, and parts/material certification reviews (traceability, certs, shelf life, calibration status, etc.).
• Support NDT activities by:
  • Verifying NDT processes meet procedure requirements
  • Reviewing NDT indications/findings and ensuring proper documentation
  • Coordinating with NDT Level II/III personnel as needed
• Document nonconformances and initiate corrective actions (NCRs/DRs), including follow‑up and closure.
• Assist with audits (internal, customer, FAA) and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with tool/equipment calibration and inspection tooling control procedures.
• Promote a strong safety and quality culture; report hazards and procedural gaps.
• Lead or participate in Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations related to quality escapes, audit findings, customer complaints, and nonconformances. Develop, document, and verify corrective actions to ensure effective and sustainable resolution.

Required Qualifications

• Aviation MRO/repair station quality inspection experience (aircraft or component).
• Working knowledge of Part 145 / FAA compliance and maintenance documentation practices.
• Experience working with or around NDT inspection in an aviation environment.
• Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings, manuals, specs, and inspection criteria.
• Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with MRO systems (e.g., SAP/AMOS/Quantum/CAMP) is a plus.
• Willingness to travel if needed

NDT

• Current/previous NDT Level II certification in one or more methods (e.g., ET, UT, PT, MT, RT) per NAS 410 / SNT-TC-1A.

Preferred Qualifications

• A&P License Required
• Experience with Airbus/Boeing/Embraer/Bombardier platforms (as applicable).
• Prior MRB/material review board exposure or strong defect/discrepancy writing skills.
• ASQ certs (CQI/CQA) are a plus.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• Ability to work in hangar/production settings with exposure to noise, fumes, and temperature changes.
• Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders/platforms, and lift up to 50 lbs without accommodation.
