Job summary

Merit Brass is seeking a Quality Inspector at our Cleveland, OH location. The role involves performing in-process and final inspections of nipples and pipe components, reading blueprints, and ensuring conformity to specifications throughout manufacturing stages.

The ideal candidate has high attention to detail, experience with inspection tools and GD&T, and is capable of lifting up to 70 lbs while maintaining a strong team-oriented attitude. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Background in manufacturing or inspection preferred.
• Able to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T information.
• Capable of lifting up to 70 lbs and standing/bending through shift.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process inspections of cut-blanks, stamped and threaded nipples according to specifications.
• Inspect pipe for production use and ensure it meets industrial standards; track measurements with heat numbers.
• Perform first piece and final inspections; verify setups and documentation.
• Maintain traceability records and inspection results; communicate adjustments to supervisors.
• Act as a quality resource for the team and assist with paperwork and safety compliance.
• Support continuous improvement and teamwork across the department.

Objectives

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process inspections of cut-blanks, stamped and threaded nipples according to specifications during themanufacturing stages
• Perform inspections of pipe intended for use in production, confirms that it meets or exceeds the specificationsrequired by industrial standards; Tracking measurements with heat numbers for traceability
• Perform first piece inspections and approve manufacturing set-ups
• Perform final inspections of washed nipples according to documented processes
• Utilizes rulers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and PMI equipment to assure material is within specifications
• Communicates timely and regularly on any required adjustments to manufacturing supervisors
• Perform inspections of Merit purchased products according to the defined criteria and measurements using standardphysical and mechanical gages
• Accurately maintains documentation of traceability information and the results of inspections and testing
• Serve as a resource and content expert to team members; information regarding quality trends of production ordersand pipe manufacturers
• Works with other quality personnel to ensure proper paperwork is completed
• Advocates the spirit of teamwork and personal accountability in the performance of other duties and responsibilitiesas requested by the department supervisor
• Ensures work areas and operations conform to safety requirements and are hazard free
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school graduate, GED, or equivalent education; strong written and verbal communication skills
• Previous experience with a background in manufacturing or inspection preferred
• Ability to use and read basic inspection tools such as rulers, scales, micrometers, calipers, etc.
• Ability to learn raw material and manufactured product identification numbers
• Must demonstrate great attention to detail
• Capable of identifying small very fine imperfections / surface flaws in material
• Basic computer knowledge and math skills (adding/subtracting whole numbers/fractions, decimals, etc.)
• Able to read and interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing information
• Ability to work individually and/or with others as a team member to continuously improve our company
• Excellent work habits including punctuality, attendance, and work ethic
• Standing / bending for entire shift; capable of lifting 50-70 lbs. occasionally from floor-level; pushing and pullingorder carts that could weigh up to 150 lbs.
• Moving, and lifting full lengths of pipe (12 to 24 feet in length)
• Willingness to work overtime as needed
