Job summary

Merit Brass Company is seeking a motivated Quality Inspector for our Richmond Heights, OH location. The role focuses on in-process and final inspections of nipples and pipe, with emphasis on accuracy, traceability, and adherence to specifications.

The successful candidate will use precision tools, read blueprints and GD&T, and collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure quality standards are met.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T information.
  • Strong attention to detail and dependable with good attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process inspections of cut-blanks, stamped and threaded nipples.
  • Inspect pipe for production readiness and track heat numbers for traceability.
  • Perform first piece inspections and approve manufacturing set-ups.

Objectives
  • Ensures Merit Brass quality standards and expectations are met or exceeded all the time
  • Upholds the Merit Brass corporate mission statement, acting with a sense of urgency and upholding the core valuesas published
  • Maintains a professional, ethical and respectful attitude while exercising teamwork
Responsibilities
  • Perform in-process inspections of cut-blanks, stamped and threaded nipples according to specifications during themanufacturing stages
  • Perform inspections of pipe intended for use in production, confirms that it meets or exceeds the specificationsrequired by industrial standards; Tracking measurements with heat numbers for traceability
  • Perform first piece inspections and approve manufacturing set-ups
  • Perform final inspections of washed nipples according to documented processes
  • Utilizes rulers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and PMI equipment to assure material is within specifications
  • Communicates timely and regularly on any required adjustments to manufacturing supervisors
  • Perform inspections of Merit purchased products according to the defined criteria and measurements using standardphysical and mechanical gages
  • Accurately maintains documentation of traceability information and the results of inspections and testing
  • Serve as a resource and content expert to team members; information regarding quality trends of production ordersand pipe manufacturers
  • Works with other quality personnel to ensure proper paperwork is completed
  • Advocates the spirit of teamwork and personal accountability in the performance of other duties and responsibilitiesas requested by the department supervisor
  • Ensures work areas and operations conform to safety requirements and are hazard free
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school graduate, GED, or equivalent education; strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience with a background in manufacturing or inspection preferred
  • Ability to use and read basic inspection tools such as rulers, scales, micrometers, calipers, etc.
  • Ability to learn raw material and manufactured product identification numbers
  • Must demonstrate great attention to detail
  • Capable of identifying small very fine imperfections / surface flaws in material
  • Basic computer knowledge and math skills (adding/subtracting whole numbers/fractions, decimals, etc.)
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing information
  • Ability to work individually and/or with others as a team member to continuously improve our company
  • Excellent work habits including punctuality, attendance, and work ethic
  • Standing / bending for entire shift; capable of lifting 50–70 lbs. occasionally from floor-level; pushing and pullingorder carts that could weigh up to 150 lbs.
  • Moving, and lifting full lengths of pipe (12 to 24 feet in length)
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
