Job summary

Merit Brass is seeking a Quality Inspector at our Cleveland, OH location to ensure products meet specifications through in-process and final inspections. The candidate will use rulers, calipers, micrometers, PMI equipment, and blueprints with GD&T to verify dimensions and material traceability, while coordinating with manufacturing for timely adjustments and documentation.

Strong attention to detail, ability to learn, and reliable work habits are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process inspections of cut-blanks, stamped nipples, and related parts.
• Inspect pipe to ensure it meets specifications and maintain traceability via heat numbers.
• Conduct first piece and final inspections and approve setups.
• Document inspection results and maintain traceability information.
• Collaborate with production for timely adjustments and quality improvements.

Objectives

• Ensures Merit Brass quality standards and expectations are met or exceeded all the time

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process inspections of cut-blanks, stamped and threaded nipples according to specifications during themanufacturing stages
• Perform inspections of pipe intended for use in production, confirms that it meets or exceeds the specificationsrequired by industrial standards; Tracking measurements with heat numbers for traceability
• Perform first piece inspections and approve manufacturing set-ups
• Perform final inspections of washed nipples according to documented processes
• Utilizes rulers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and PMI equipment to assure material is within specifications
• Communicates timely and regularly on any required adjustments to manufacturing supervisors
• Perform inspections of Merit purchased products according to the defined criteria and measurements using standardphysical and mechanical gages
• Accurately maintains documentation of traceability information and the results of inspections and testing
• Serve as a resource and content expert to team members; information regarding quality trends of production ordersand pipe manufacturers
• Works with other quality personnel to ensure proper paperwork is completed
• Advocates the spirit of teamwork and personal accountability in the performance of other duties and responsibilitiesas requested by the department supervisor
• Ensures work areas and operations conform to safety requirements and are hazard free
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school graduate, GED, or equivalent education; strong written and verbal communication skills
• Previous experience with a background in manufacturing or inspection preferred
• Ability to use and read basic inspection tools such as rulers, scales, micrometers, calipers, etc.
• Ability to learn raw material and manufactured product identification numbers
• Must demonstrate great attention to detail
• Capable of identifying small very fine imperfections / surface flaws in material
• Basic computer knowledge and math skills (adding/subtracting whole numbers/fractions, decimals, etc.)
• Able to read and interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing information
• Ability to work individually and/or with others as a team member to continuously improve our company
• Excellent work habits including punctuality, attendance, and work ethic
• Standing / bending for entire shift; capable of lifting 50–70 lbs. occasionally from floor-level; pushing and pullingorder carts that could weigh up to 150 lbs.
• Moving, and lifting full lengths of pipe (12 to 24 feet in length)
• Willingness to work overtime as needed
