Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs invites applications for a Quality Engineering Intern position based in Mansfield, OH. Interns will support the Metallurgical lab with safety inspections, data collection, and process improvements while gaining exposure to steelmaking and testing workflows.

As work progresses, interns may assist with lab calibrations, data mining, and Metallurgical investigations, contributing to production and quality initiatives in a real-world setting.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a BS program in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related technical field.
• Completion of at least sophomore year by Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Complete monthly safety inspections and observations for Metallurgical Dept.
• Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab.
• Calibrate test equipment and maintain lab data.
• Support data-mining investigations on metallurgical performance and chemistry.

As a Quality Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Summary Of Responsibilities

• Complete monthly safety inspections and safety observations for the Metallurgical Department.
• Work safely and assure plant safety policies are followed.
• Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab.
• Manage test equipment calibrations.
• Create new operating efficiencies to maintain the production, testing, and shipping of steel with a leaner workforce.
• Maintain Steelmaking spectrometer lab, calibration, and on-call support.
• Responsible for data-mining investigations with metallurgical grade performance, chemistry, scrap charges, etc.
• Responsible for Metallurgical grade maintenance and development.
• Manage 3rd party testing inspection.
• Maintain tracking of Steelmaking scrap, referral, and diversions.
• Responsible for Metallurgical investigations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or other related technical degree
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
