Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking a Quality Engineering Intern to join our Coshocton, OH location. You will assist with safety inspections, laboratory workflow management, and calibration of test equipment while supporting metallurgical investigations and data-driven improvements in production processes.

The internship offers exposure to industry-leading engineering leadership, opportunities to contribute to real-world solutions, and potential future full-time consideration.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a BS program in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related technical field.
• Completion of at least sophomore year by summer 2027.
• U.S. work authorization for full-time employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly safety inspections and safety observations in the Metallurgical Department.
• Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab and calibrations.
• Support data-mining investigations on metallurgical grade performance and scrap charges.
• Assist in Metallurgical investigations and testing group; support 3rd party inspections.

As a Quality Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern's education level and plant location but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Summary of Responsibilities

• Complete monthly safety inspections and safety observations for the Metallurgical Department.
• Work safely and assure plant safety policies are followed.
• Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab.
• Manage test equipment calibrations.
• Create new operating efficiencies to maintain the production, testing, and shipping of steel with a leaner workforce.
• Maintain Steelmaking spectrometer lab, calibration, and on-call support.
• Responsible for data-mining investigations with metallurgical grade performance, chemistry, scrap charges, etc.
• Responsible for Metallurgical grade maintenance and development.
• Manage 3rd party testing inspection.
• Maintain tracking of Steelmaking scrap, referral, and diversions.
• Responsible for Metallurgical investigations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or other related technical degree
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
• Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
