Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is offering a best-in-class internship program in the steel industry and invites students in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Chemistry to join as a Quality Engineering Intern at our plants. You will support safety inspections, lab management, and test equipment calibrations while contributing to lean production and process improvements.

Enrollment in a BS program and completion of at least sophomore year by summer 2027 are required; you must be legally authorized to work in

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a BS program in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related technical field.
• Completion of at least sophomore year by summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Complete monthly safety inspections and safety observations for the Metallurgical Department.
• Work safely and assure plant safety policies are followed.
• Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab.
• Manage test equipment calibrations.
• Create new operating efficiencies to maintain the production, testing, and shipping of steel with a leaner workforce.
• Maintain Steelmaking spectrometer lab, calibration, and on‑call support.
• Responsible for data‑mining investigations with metallurgical grade performance, chemistry, scrap charges, etc.
• Responsible for Metallurgical grade maintenance and development.
• Manage 3rd party testing inspection.
• Maintain tracking of Steelmaking scrap, referral, and diversions.
• Responsible for Metallurgical investigations.

As a Quality Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern's education level and plant location but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or other related technical degree
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
