Job summary

Custom Air Products & Services, Inc. (CAPS) in Houston, TX seeks a Quality Engineering Inspector to perform inspections, testing, validation, and quality assurance on HVAC units and components.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Field Service to identify quality concerns and implement corrective actions for reliability and performance. Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years in quality inspection or QA in HVAC or manufacturing.
  • Experience performing product testing, validation, troubleshooting, and quality assurance activities.
  • Strong understanding of quality control methodologies and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, or schematics.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and mechanical assemblies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of materials, components, and finished HVAC equipment.
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Conduct electrical, mechanical, pressure, leak, airflow, and functional testing of products and assemblies.
  • Document inspection and test results, ensuring traceability.
  • Identify, document, and manage non-conforming materials through the NCR process.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
  • Assist Quality and Engineering teams with product validation, process improvements, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize measuring and testing equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances, performance, and product reliability.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Service teams to improve quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality systems, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.

We are currently seeking a Quality Engineering Inspectorto add to our growing team.

Position Summary & Objective

The Quality Engineering Inspector is responsible for performing inspections, testing, validation, and quality assurance activities to ensure custom HVAC units, components, and assemblies meet company, customer, regulatory, and engineering requirements. This role supports production quality, product performance testing, process improvement initiatives, and quality engineering activities through inspection, data collection, failure analysis, and continuous improvement efforts. The position works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Field Service teams to identify quality concerns, conduct testing, implement corrective actions, and improve overall product reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of materials, components, and finished HVAC equipment.
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Conduct electrical, mechanical, pressure, leak, airflow, and functional testing of products and assemblies.
  • Document inspection and test results, ensuring accurate quality records and traceability.
  • Identify, document, and manage non-conforming materials and products through the NCR process.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Assist Quality and Engineering teams with product validation, process improvements, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize measuring and testing equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances, performance, and product reliability.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Service teams to improve quality, performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality systems, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3-5+ years of experience in quality inspection, quality engineering, testing, manufacturing, HVAC, metal fabrication, or a related industrial environment.
  • Experience performing product testing, validation, troubleshooting, and quality assurance activities.
  • Strong understanding of quality control methodologies, inspection techniques, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, motors, controls, and mechanical assemblies preferred.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, and insulation testers.
  • Familiarity with welding, brazing, fabrication, and assembly quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective action processes, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience with quality systems, audits, NCRs, and quality documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality reporting systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Quality, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, HVAC, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT), Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), AWS certifications, or similar certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work performed primarily in a manufacturing and testing environment.
  • Frequent walking between production, testing, and engineering areas.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform inspections for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, industrial equipment, electrical systems, and manufacturing processes.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
