Job summary
Trane Technologies in Columbia, SC is seeking a Quality Engineer to serve as the quality representative on cross-functional teams and drive quality through NPD, VAVE, ETO, DTO, and design specials. Qualifications
- 3+ years in quality engineering or related fields.
- Experience supporting cross-functional product or process projects in manufacturing.
- Knowledge of quality tools: FMEA, control plans, SPC, MSA, capability analysis, RCA.
- Experience with NPI, changes, validation, and production launch support.
- Proficient with standard quality systems and documentation practices.
- Experience with electrical components and assemblies preferred.
- ERP/MRP, PLM, or quality management systems a plus.
- ASQ certification or similar credential is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Serve as quality representative on cross-functional teams for initiatives such as NPD, VAVE, ETO, and DTO.
- Ensure quality requirements are identified and flowed into development activities.
- Participate in project reviews, design reviews, risk assessments, and gate approvals.
- Lead or support APQP, control plan development, PFMEA/DFMEA reviews, and process validation.
- Define quality criteria for prototypes, pilots, pre-production, and production launches.
- Review drawings, specs, tolerances, and CTQ characteristics with design engineering.
- Develop control plans, inspection methods, test plans, and quality controls with manufacturing.
- Lead development of inspection plans and quality acceptance criteria.
- Support supplier quality for new components and design changes.
- Drive root cause analysis using 8D, 5 Whys, and fishbone analysis.
- Monitor quality metrics and communicate risks and mitigations.
- Support qualification of new products, processes, tooling, and materials.
- Ensure compliance with customers, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
- Review deviations, concessions, and change-related quality docs.
- Assist with PPAP, first article inspection, capability studies, MSA, and validation docs.
- Provide quality support during launch, early production, and field issue follow-up.
- Drive continuous improvement to improve reliability, cost, delivery, and customer satisfaction.
