Job summary

Timken is seeking a Quality Engineer to strengthen North America Rail Quality and Operations through quality system improvements and documentation stewardship.

You will develop and maintain quality manuals, procedures, control plans and customer specs, while leading PFMEA efforts and internal audits to drive defect reduction and process reliability across manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years related position experience in quality system work.
  • Experience in manufacturing and proficiency with Excel preferred.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, bias for action, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain quality system documentation including quality manual, procedures, process control plans, standard work instructions and customer specifications.
  • Interface with Sales Engineers regarding customer specifications.
  • Maintain master listings and ensure revision control within the organization.
  • Lead Team problem solving.
  • Prepare and issue timely formal response to Timken Sales Engineer, customer and AAR, as required.
  • Train Quality Assurance personnel to perform audit.
  • Monitor accomplishment of targeted audits.
  • Monitor adverse findings, issue CARs and assist in corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Establish internal audit schedules.
  • Perform internal quality system audit.
  • Review (and comment) to Supplier Quality Manuals presented by customer.
  • Issue Certificate of Conformance and / or Certificate of Inspection & Test with shipments.
  • Develop PFMEA for manufacturing processes and lead periodic review.

Job Title:

Quality Engineer

Description

Manage quality system documentation such as development of standard operating and setup work instructions, preventive maintenance tasks and schedules, and updates to documents that are required. Manage the handling of customer complaints and determine the corrective action needed to eliminate the cause of nonconformity and application of controls to ensure that corrective action is taken and that it is effective. Assist with TQMS implementation and manage the Error Proofing Verification (EPV) program. Lead the internal quality system audit program and the development of PFMEAs for manufacturing processes.

Overall Purpose:

Critical role to support North America Rail Quality and Operations with quality system improvement and maintenance activities.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop, implement and maintain quality system documentation including quality manual, procedures, process control plans, standard work instructions and customer specifications
  • Interface with Sales Engineers regarding customer specifications

  • Maintain listing of error proofing devices (prevention / detection)
  • Train Quality Assurance personnel to perform audit
  • Monitor accomplishment of targeted audits
  • Monitor adverse findings, issue Corrective Action Requests (CAR) and assist in the development of meaningful corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Establish internal audit schedules
  • Perform internal quality system audit
  • Manage Customer Requested Documentation
  • Review (and comment) to Supplier Quality Manuals presented by customer (supplement to contractual agreement)
  • Issue Certificate of Conformance and / or Certificate of Inspection & Test with shipments
  • Develop Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) for manufacturing processes
  • Lead periodic review of PFMEA by multi-disciplinary team
  • Lead proactive approach to reduction of highest RPN values
  • Analyze trends, provide recommendations, and generate reports related to customer complaints, EPV, internal quality system audits, and PFMEA risk analysis.
  • Support the training function, as required.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Demands & Frequency:
  • Position: Standing, sitting, and walking
  • Standard office work, keyboard, typing.
  • Weights & Force: Lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Use of Controls: Typical business machine controls, computer keyboards, scanners, printers, etc.
General Educational Development:

Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years related position experience in quality system work is required. Experience in manufacturing experience and proficiency with Excel also preferred. Must be able to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization, work well in a team atmosphere, have a strong bias for action, good project management skills, and detailed oriented.

Qualifications/Training:

Candidate shall successfully complete training program and as applicable, qualification requirements, as defined by the responsible functional manager. New hires shall demonstrate satisfactory performance during new hire probationary period. All training is completed on-the-job.

Aptitudes:

High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Good hand/eye coordination and keyboard manipulation skills.

Temperaments:

Logical, analytical, detailed, result oriented, good interpersonal skills.

Environmental Conditions:

Frequent impact noise, seasonal changes in heat.

Protective Clothing and Personal Devices:

Proper PPE including safety glasses when on manufacturing floor.
