Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. seeks a Quality Engineer to develop and manage quality engineering efforts within QA/QC, interfacing with design, operations and customers to drive continuous improvements and maintain quality metrics.

The role involves process development, problem solving, and supplier evaluation support. The position requires up to 50% travel, experience with Six Sigma tools, and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience or an associate’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or 9+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience working in quality assurance or quality control
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Statistical methods in quality (sampling plans, data analysis, SPC, process capability)
  • Proficiency with Six Sigma tools (pFMEA, CP, root cause analysis, MSA)
  • Ability to use Minitab or equivalent software
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and specifications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to lead cross-functional projects including mid-level managers
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform field visits and work with customers as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

  • Travel may be up to 50-75% including overnight stays
  • Identify and mitigate risks to meet codes and specifications
  • Act as quality liaison between QA, supply chain, operations and design engineering
  • Interpret quality requirements and external standards
  • Lead and participate in formal problem-solving events
  • Drive quality improvements using PFMEAs, control plans, and capability studies
  • Apply LEAN principles to minimize QC waste
  • Define quality processes for new product introductions
  • Lead quality teams through process improvement events
  • Communicate and implement best practices for quality
  • Interface with customers to resolve nonconformances and may visit job sites
  • Establish and track quality metrics with management
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities related to quality
  • Prepare and report quality activity updates
  • Participate in customer specification reviews
  • Ensure compliance with laws in all jurisdictions
  • Build relationships with stakeholders
  • Work safely with PPE and lifting requirements
  • Collaborate with QA and Operations to achieve metrics
