Schneider Electric has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer Intern at our Columbia, Missouri location for the Spring 2027 semester. This is a part‑time and onsite role, ideal for candidates located in the area.

You will support quality fundamentals, participate in PFMEA and poka‑yoke opportunities, assist with Gage R&R studies, and help drive continuous improvement using 8D and Six Sigma tools.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or Electronic engineering.
  • Experience with 8D problem solving methodology and related tools.
  • Six Sigma knowledge or certification is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, leadership and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy quality fundamentals tools and materials.
  • Participate in problem solving for internal/external customer concerns using 8D, Kaizen, Six Sigma.
  • Work with Quality Engineer on PFMEA, process control plans and poka‑yoke/Jidoka opportunities.
  • Interface with manufacturing, engineering, and supplier quality resources.
  • Support new product introductions and supplier development at Columbia components.
  • Benchmark with other Schneider entities to deploy digital process improvements.
  • Review Quality Controls like Poka Yokes and Jidokas for efficiency.
  • Support capability studies and Gage R&R studies.
  • Provide tooling and process recommendations to optimize inspections.

Schneider Electric has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer Intern at our Columbia, Missouri location for the Spring 2027 semester. This is a part‑time and onsite so the ideal candidate will be located in the general area. No visa sponsorship or relocation will be provided for this role.

What do you get to do in this position?
  • Deployment of tools/material for Quality Fundamentals
  • Team member for problem solving regarding internal and external customer concerns utilizing tools including 8D, Kaizen, Six Sigma... all driving to understanding Root Cause - implementing corrective and preventative actions and driving continuous improvement.
  • Works with the Quality Engineer on the review, development, and implementation of PFMEA, process control plans and poka-yoke & Jidoka opportunities.
  • Interfaces heavily with Technical Antennas, manufacturing hourly and salaried support personnel, and external corporate engineering, quality, and supplier quality resources.
  • Supports new product introductions, supplier development activities relating to Columbia components, and is a key contributor to those overall successes.
  • Benchmark with other Schneider entities, align, and deploy projects to utilize digital technology in the process robustness.
  • Review the implementation and efficiency of Quality Controls such as Poka Yokes and Jidokas.
  • Support capability studies and Perform Gage R&R Studies.
  • Provide tooling and process recommendations to optimize productandprocess inspections.

Auditing, Monitoring & Sustainment
  • Perform and facilitate Layered Process Audits (LPAs) to validate process conformance.
  • Support the Quality Fundamentals Self‑Assessment and prepare improvement plans.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs ("Gemba") to identify abnormalities, gaps to standards, and behavioral adherence.
This job might be for you if you have:
  • Undergraduate degree/Higher education (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Electronic)
  • Experience within manufacturing Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with 8D problem solving methodology, tool utilization (ie. 5Why, fishbone (cause and effect), etc)
  • Six Sigma knowledge, experience, certification highly desired
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with data, problem resolution, project management
  • Excellent skills in leadership, communication both verbal and written, and attention to detail

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD $23 to $27.50 per hour. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
