Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking a Quality Engineer I to assure that products and contracts meet objectives across the full product lifecycle, from design through fulfillment. You will support quality planning, surveillance, and problem-solving within a growing aerospace and defense context.

The role emphasizes analytical techniques, drawing interpretation, and cross-functional collaboration, with a focus on reliability, process control, and continuous improvement in a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Able to read, interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Uses operations research techniques such as cost analysis, experimentation, gaming, simulation, flow charting, information theory, and advanced mathematics in developing optimum quality plans.
  • Develops overall quality plans using the systems concept identifying in terms of the product involved, general instructions, test and sampling procedures, specific parts and assembly instructions, material disposition, records, tables, charts, and graphs required.
  • Acts as an advisor in all phases of statistical quality control, develops new statistical techniques and interprets significance of resulting data.
  • Reviews Engineering and Manufacturing information such as new and revised designs, specifications and bills of materials; production, tool and test equipment drawings; production and tool plans; operation and routing sheets; production, storage, and shipping methods; and facility and floor space requirements.
  • Acts as an advisor in his field of specialty to vendors or Textron Systems groups.
  • Develops vendor certification and rating plans.
  • Evaluates the quality and capability of vendors or potential vendors and approves such vendors.
  • Plans the minimum quality standards, test, and inspection requirements and process controls.
  • Performs complicated and difficult engineering work requiring a high degree of technical competence.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Receives technical guidance on unusual or unprecedented problems.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management.

About This Role

Quality Engineer I is responsible for assuring that Company and products adequately meet the objectives of the contract or sales agreement by maintaining surveillance over all phases of the product's cycle from design to successful fulfillment of intended objectives.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Position Requirements
  • 1 – 2 plus years of experience
  • Working familiarity and knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards and programs.
  • Familiar with government contracts is a plus
  • Familiar with military standards and specifications is a plus
  • Able to read, interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to interact effectively with management, peers and other employees relative to quality and technical issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS

Physical demands described have been validated by on-site job analysis. Postural: Must have the ability to move extremities and spine throughout a sufficient range of motion that will permit the employee to work in a variety of postures involving a range from floor to overhead level. Flexing and twisting of the trunk and other awkward postures are occasionally required.

Dexterity: Must have a good dexterity and frequently use one and two hands throughout the work period for tasks involving fingering, gripping and manipulation.

Cardiorespiratory Demand: Must have sufficient cardiorespiratory fitness to be able to perform medium work involving heavy lifting. Must be able to safely tolerate medium demands on the cardiorespiratory system in various temperature ranges and humidity.

General Physical Activities: Include standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, speaking clearly, seeing distant/reading, reaching, hearing, depth perception, color vision, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs and balancing.

Physical Demand Level - Medium: Must be able to perform medium physical labor as classified by the United States Department of Labor. Physical demands typically involve lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling not to exceed 60 lbs.
