Job summary

Textron Systems in New Orleans, LA is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to perform mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and/or electronic inspection and test operations to ensure adherence to standards on procured and production equipment.

The role requires reading drawings, performing precision measurements, and applying nondestructive testing methods; candidates should have two years of electro/mechanical inspection experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Two years of electro/mechanical inspection experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications; use precision measuring instruments.
  • Must pass eye exams for the NDT methods performed; strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test parts, materials, components, and systems across Receiving, Shipping, Stores, Weld/Fabrication, Assembly, Testing, Calibration, Radiography, and Coating Inspections.
  • Visually inspect using gauges, jigs, templates and nondestructive methods to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Operate standard calibration and test equipment.
  • Reject non-conforming parts and materials.
  • Assist/train inspectors in inspections, NDT, x-ray, calibration, coatings, and testing.
  • Review vendor data for acceptability.
  • Generate quality reports and nonconformance documents.
  • Adhere to safety and company policies.
  • Interface with all levels of the organization, suppliers and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About This Role

We believe people should love what they do – in this role, you will be responsible for:

A Quality Control Inspector performs a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and/or electronic inspection and test operations to determine adherence to standards, specifications, drawing requirements, procedures, etc. on any or all types of procured and production equipment, subassemblies, components, or assemblies as directed.

Responsibilities
  • Inspection and test of parts, materials, components, and systems in one or more of the following areas: Receiving, Shipping, Stores, Weld/Fabrication, Assembly, Testing, Calibration, Radiography, and Coating Inspections.
  • Visually examinations by means of instruments, gauges, jigs, templates, or other measuring devices to include nondestructive test methods to insure adherence to standards, specifications, drawing, etc.
  • May operate standard calibration and test equipment.
  • Rejects parts, materials, assemblies, equipment, tooling, or components which do not meet requirements.
  • Performs and may assist/train other inspectors in inspections, non-destructive testing, x-ray, calibration, coatings, and observations and functional testing (including electrical, mechanical, structural etc.)
  • Reviews software data on vendor supplied items to determine acceptability.
  • Generates Quality reports, completes Inspection Check Lists, nonconformance documents, calibration reports, x-ray, and other Quality documents/records as applicable to the specific area assigned.
  • Adheres to all safety requirements, departmental instructions and TMLS Policies and Procedures.
  • Interface directly with all levels of the organization, suppliers, and customers, as appropriate.
  • Performs any and all other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High School or equivalent education required
  • Technical/vocational training preferred

Position Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of experience performing electro/mechanical inspections, NDT training, or equivalent field experience.
  • Able to read and understand drawings and specifications and to use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
  • Must pass the required Eye exams for the NDT methods performed, as applicable.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demands described have been validated by on-site job analysis. They are representative of the physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully and safely perform the essential functions of this job. The following information is a synopsis of key physical demand requirements determined from a detailed job analysis:

Postural: Must have the ability to move extremities and spine throughout a sufficient range of motion that will permit the employee to work in a variety of postures involving a range from floor to overhead level. Flexing and twisting of the trunk and other awkward postures are occasionally required.

Dexterity : Must have a good dexterity and frequently use one and two hands throughout the work period for tasks involving fingering, gripping and manipulation.

Cardiorespiratory Demand : Must have sufficient cardiorespiratory fitness to be able to perform medium work involving heavy lifting. Must be able to safely tolerate medium demands on the cardiorespiratory system in various temperature ranges and humidity.

General Physical Activities : Include standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, speaking clearly, seeing distant/reading, reaching, hearing, depth perception, color vision, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs and balancing.

Physical Demand Level - Medium : Must be able to perform medium physical labor as classified by the United States Department of Labor. Physical demands typically involve lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling not to exceed 60 lbs.
