6 Degrees Search is seeking a Quality Engineer for an automotive facility in the St. Joseph, MI area.

You will partner with production and engineering to reduce quality issues, support new model launches, and drive continuous improvement in a tech-driven plant. The role requires a background in quality engineering within mass production or automotive supplier environments, experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions, and strong knowledge of APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, and GD&T.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; experience considered in lieu of degree.
• At least four years of quality engineering experience in mass production machining or automotive supplier tier I/II.
• Experience leading root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Formal problem solving skills (8D, 5WHY).
• Document control experience (control plans, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA).
• Ability to read blueprints; GD&T experience.
• Proficient with calipers, micrometers, gauges.
• MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with key customers and serve as the quality contact for issues.
• Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Assist manufacturing floor with quality concerns and problem solving.
• Review control plans and PFMEA; monitor updates.
• Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly customer reports.
• Support launches and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor and optimize gauge and SPC processes.
• Lead problem-solving teams and training as needed.
• Utilize Minitab for data analysis and trending.
• Collaborate with operations and engineering to reduce scrap.

Profitable, stable manufacturer is seeking a Quality Engineer to report to the Quality Manager, work with another Quality Engineer and partner closely with production and engineering. Candidates will be assigned to specific automotive OEMs and will work to reduce quality issues and support operations and production launches. Responsibilities will include:

• Communicate with key customers and serve as the point of contact for quality issues
• Determine root cause of quality issues and implement corrective actions
• Assist the manufacturing floor with quality issues and concerns
• Review control plans
• Complete weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for customers and management
• Assist operations and engineering with problem solving
• Monitor and update portals
• Champion formal problem solving teams
• Improve the gauge and SPC process
• Support new model launch activities
• Deliver related quality training
• Monitor and minimize scrap
• Utilize Minitab software
• Additional responsibilities as delegated by the manager

REQUIREMENTS for the Quality Engineer:

• Ideally a Bachelor's degree; experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
• At least four years of quality engineering experience in a mass production machining environment OR with a tier I or tier II automotive supplier
• Experience leading root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
• Formal problem solving skills, such as 8D, 5WHY, etc.
• Document control experience, such as control plans, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, etc.
• Ability to read blueprints, ideally with GD&T experience
• Working knowledge of calipers, micrometers, gauges and other quality tools
• Microsoft Office

Skills preferred but NOT required:

• ERP system experience
• Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
• Customer communication
• Experience with product launches
• Strong continuous improvement background with proven examples of scrap reductions, efficiency improvements, etc.
• SPC experience, including SPC software
