Job summary

Top Echelon LLC in the St. Joseph, MI area is seeking a Quality Engineer to support automotive manufacturing with a focus on quality improvement, launches, and customer satisfaction.

You will partner with production and engineering to reduce quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions across programs while leveraging modern manufacturing tech and on-site collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience accepted in lieu.
  • At least four years in quality engineering in mass production machining or automotive Tier.
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Formal problem-solving skills (8D, 5WHY, etc.).
  • Document control experience (control plans, APQP, PFMEA).
  • Ability to read blueprints with GD&T.
  • Working knowledge of calipers, micrometers, gauges.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with key customers and serve as the quality contact for issues.
  • Determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist manufacturing with quality issues and concerns.
  • Review control plans and related quality documents.
  • Complete weekly, monthly and quarterly customer/management reports.
  • Support operations and engineering with problem solving.
  • Monitor and optimize gauge, SPC processes and port portals.

Profitable, stable manufacturer is seeking a Quality Engineer to report to the Quality Manager, work with another Quality Engineer and partner closely with production and engineering. Candidates will be assigned to specific automotive OEMs and will work to reduce quality issues and support operations and production launches. Responsibilities will include:

  • Communicate with key customers and serve as the point of contact for quality issues
  • Determine root cause of quality issues and implement corrective actions
  • Assist the manufacturing floor with quality issues and concerns
  • Review control plans
  • Complete weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for customers and management
  • Assist operations and engineering with problem solving
  • Monitor and update portals
  • Champion formal problem solving teams
  • Improve the gauge and SPC process
  • Support new model launch activities
  • Deliver related quality training
  • Monitor and minimize scrap
  • Utilize Minitab software
  • Additional responsibilities as delegated by the manager

The qualified candidate will enjoy spending up to 25% of their day on the manufacturing floor, be a good problem solver, able to work in fast-paced automotive environments, thrive on driving continuous improvement, able to work within a team and independently, be professional, and hit the ground running.

REQUIREMENTS for the Quality Engineer:
  • 1. Ideally a Bachelor's degree; experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 2. At least four years of quality engineering experience in a mass production machining environment OR with a tier I or tier II automotive supplier
  • 3. Experience leading root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • 4. Formal problem solving skills, such as 8D, 5WHY, etc.
  • 5. Document control experience, such as control plans, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, etc.
  • 6. Ability to read blueprints, ideally with GD&T experience
  • 7. Working knowledge of calipers, micrometers, gauges and other quality tools
  • 8. Microsoft Office
Skills preferred but NOT required:
  • 1. ERP system experience
  • 2. Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
  • 3. Customer communication
  • 4. Experience with product launches
  • 5. Strong continuous improvement background with proven examples of scrap reductions, efficiency improvements, etc.
  • 6. SPC experience, including SPC software
