Job Description
  • Seeking a Quality Engineer to support the Combat Mission Systems’ Paladin vehicle manufacturing program. In this role, the Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality evaluation and control systems within a low-rate, automotive-style manufacturing environment.
  • The QE ensures that all requirements are met across multiple assembly stages, including Engine Testing, Sub-assemblies, Main Line, Garage, Testing, and Paint & Processing. The successful candidate will act as a critical link between production and quality, collaborating with cross-functional support organizations to investigate, document, and resolve complex issues inherent in military vehicle build processes.
  • This role requires a proactive approach to continuous improvement, utilizing quality tools and data analytics to drive corrective actions and ensure total conformance to technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • System Ownership: Develop and modify quality control protocols for in-process, partially finished, and finished tracked vehicle products.
  • Process Validation: Validate processes, procedures, parts, and final vehicles to ensure 100% conformance to engineering specs and customer requirements.
  • Data-Driven Improvement: Monitor input and Pareto quality data to identify defect trends and nonconformities; present findings to leadership to drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Coordinate and lead project efforts with cross-functional teams (CFT) to resolve production bottlenecks and quality escapes.
  • Compliance: Ensure all manufacturing activities align with ISO 9001 standards and internal Systems quality governance.
Skills Required
  • QA/QC Fundamentals: Deep understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Practical experience operating within ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Problem Solving: Proven background in root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques specific to low-rate production environments.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Communication: Highly organized with the ability to communicate technical issues effectively to both shop-floor personnel and executive leadership.
Skills Preferred
  • Advanced Quality Toolset: Formal training and certification in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5-Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and 8D methodology.
  • Risk Management: Proficiency in developing and maintaining PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and PQCT (Process Quality Control Tables).
  • Metrology & Inspection: Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and the development of inspection programs using portable metrology technology (e.g., Faro arms, laser trackers).
  • Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience with ORACLE MRP systems and TIPQA for quality tracking and documentation.
  • Audit Leadership: Experience performing ISO internal audits and Layered Process Audits (LPA), including the ability to lead Cross-Functional Team (CFT) meetings to close audit findings.
  • Production Support: Experience drafting and refining detailed work instructions for complex assembly processes to reduce human-factor errors.
Experience Required
  • Manufacturing Environment: Proven experience in a manufacturing, production, assembly or automotive environment, specifically with low-rate, high-complexity assemblies. Quality Systems: Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining quality control protocols within an ISO 9001 certified environment. Technical Analysis: Experience using Pareto charts and other data analysis tools to identify defect trends and implement corrective actions. Cross-Functional Collaboration: A track record of leading cross-functional teams (CFT) to resolve production issues and quality escapes. Technical Documentation: Experience interpreting engineering blueprints and technical drawings to validate part conformance. Leadership: (For HS Diploma candidates) Proven experience in a lead or supervisory role, managing quality workflows or personnel.
