Venteon is seeking a 1st Shift Quality Engineer in the Adrian, MI area to lead quality initiatives in automotive manufacturing. The role is full-time and direct-hire with bonus potential, good benefits, and paid holidays/vacation.

Responsibilities include supervising QA staff, implementing IATF 16949/ISO 14001 compliant processes, coordinating PPAP/APQP submissions, and driving continuous improvement through DFMEA/PFMEA, control plans, and quality training.

Qualifications

  • CQE certification is required.
  • Strong knowledge of PPAP and APQP processes.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, SC and KPC requirements.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Minimum three years in automotive QA with supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

Job description

A Leading Automotive Supplier in the Adrian, Michigan area needs a 1st Shift Quality Engineer. This is a Full Time, Permanent, Direct Hire Position offering Competitive Compensation, Bonus Potential, Good Benefits, Paid Holidays and Paid Vacation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops and implements plan for department safety and environmental that is consistent with the goals of the department and company. Insures safety and environmental rules and procedures are followed. Conducts the detail Investigation of accidents.
  • Administers department policy and labor contract to supervise and direct quality associates. Promotes a positive labor relations climate in the quality department. Plans and schedules departmental workload.
  • Develops and establishes department goals that are consistent with the departmental and company goals.
  • Oversees the implementation of the changes to the quality standards. Analyzes current status of parts and processes and recommends revisions or changes for improvements based on customer requirements and feedback.
  • Assist Quality Systems the effective use of such tools such as Internal Audits, Layered Process Audits, SPC and DOE. Designs systems that meet customer and agency requirements.
  • Review the required quality documents, such as, DFMEA, PFMEA, Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, Operator Work Instructions, Gage Inspection Instructions and other related quality documents.
  • Assists Quality Manager in the development of quality improvement activities. Maintains records of improvement activities.
  • Participate in problem solving activities and coordinates resolution with the customer. Uses problem-solving methodology based on 8-D format and other customer required tools.
  • Develops and administers Quality training programs to improve quality knowledge within the facility. Utilizes knowledge of quality systems such as QS/IATF 16949/ISO 14001 and Q1.
  • Organizes new process development leading to completion through PSW and works in conjunction with the APQP process.
  • Follow and approve engineering changes to fixtures as well as new fixture builds.
  • Follow prototype material through initial process to functional build status.
  • Ensure that all concerns relating to customers, both external and internal, and suppliers, are effectively contained and permanent corrective action is put in place to prevent any reoccurrence.
  • Facilitate training related to quality and develop training material as required.
  • Deal with customer rejects and problems and takes necessary steps to rectify concerns. Investigate substandard results and conduct research on product defects in order to make recommendations on changes in materials or processes.
  • Deal with customers and engineering on advanced quality issues and programs and provide direction where required.
  • Conduct investigations on non-conformances and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Attend meetings as per customer request and translate requirements into plant systems and procedures.
  • Analyze SPC data and assist in improving manufacturing process capability.
  • Review all Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD &T), Significant Characteristics (SC), and Key Product Characteristics (KPC) with customers on new programs to address any all quality issues.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare sample submission packages (PPAP) to include all pertinent documents per customers’ requirements. Prepare Failure Mode Effect Analyses (FMEA), Process Flow Diagrams and Process Control Plans for assigned programs and revise the document when change is required.
  • Review fixture designs to ensure that parts are properly located in accordance with the GD&T and that the fixtures pass required variable data and attribute checks in accordance with customer expectations.
  • Perform dimensional checks, capability studies, Gauge R&R studies, and audits as needed to support customer concerns, APQP and PPAP requirements.
  • Review and analyze CMM layout report and recommend changes as required for a successful PPAP submission
  • Co-ordinate process capability studies to verify the capability of a product/process at launch.
  • Conduct training on new programs and provide required training materials, i.e. quality guides, control plans etc.
  • Assist with the design of experiments and DVP&R when required.
  • Review and approve supplier PPAP Packages and follows up for re-submission as required.
  • Monitor suppliers performance and develops new suppliers, assist with suppliers improvement plans to ensure that corrections are being implemented within specified time frame.
  • Supervise Corporate Testing Laboratory and all related activities.
  • Develop and achieve high quality customer service at customer shipping locations, responsible for new product launch and customer assembly plant liaison.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 - 5 years experience in a Quality Engineering or Quality Leadership Position in the Automotive Manufacturing Industry
  • Understanding of Quality System, PPAP, APQP requirements
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), Significant Characteristics (SC), customer-specific requirements and various test methods.
  • Certified Quality Engineer CQE body of knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective problem-solving skills (8D) and decision-making skills
  • Ability to read blueprint drawings
  • Ability to conduct effective training sessions
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in a Quality environment in manufacturing/automotive industry to include previous supervisory experience
  • Understanding of PPAP, APQP requirements
  • Sound understanding of quality systems such as QS/IATF 16949/ISO 14001
