Overview
Plans, directs, develops, designs, and implements quality processes for manufacturing processes. Works with customers and suppliers in developing quality standards and resolving quality issues. Provides direct support to operations for identifying, improving, and resolving quality related issues.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the maintenance and improvement of existing Quality Systems.
- Responsible for documenting and controlling Control Plans, PFMEAs, Quality Procedures, Work Instructions, Forms, etc.
- Monitors adherence and conformance to quality standards.
- Provides skills as member of the Internal Audit Team.
- Direct workers engaged in inspection and part layout activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
- Ensure all employees receive training in quality requirements, methods, and procedures.
- Assists teams in developing effective quality measurements that can be used to drive continuous improvement and communicates quality performance measurements to the teams and leadership.
- Responsible for all activities relating to Gage Control and disposition of parts.
- Leads and assists all employees in the reduction of scrap and the improvement of First Time Quality.
- Communicates and works with customers on quality issues.
- Responsible for coordination and monitoring of activities related to external/internal corrective actions.
- Responsible for the effective use and monitoring of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Works with Engineering to ensure process changes are not made without the correct notification process.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BS in Engineering (BSEE, BSME) or related field and / or 5 years' experience in quality engineering, preferably in the tier one/tier two automative supplier manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lead a team of Quality Technicians and give direction as needed.
- Experience with high volume assembly and functional testing processes.
- ASQ, CQE and CQA certification preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and solid comprehension of automotive quality systems and general product specifications (function, appearance, dimensions, tolerances).
- Excellent presentation, communication, problem solving and negotiating skills, and possess a passion for excellence in dealing with customer quality issues.
- Automotive manufacturing background with direct OEM APQP experience.
- Thorough understanding of statistical quality control and manufacturing plant quality management systems such as TS16949 implementation and auditing techniques.
- Expert level editing and document management skills - AIAG, PPAP, PFMEA, DFMEA control plans, problem solving, MSA and other manufacturing documentation.
- Knowledge of measuring equipment design and GD&T.
- Must have a working understanding of quality systems such as SPC, bar charts, failure analysis and quality standards such as IATF16949.
- Project management knowledge; experience with internal auditing, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma a plus.
- Willing to work overtime and willing to travel 20% with minimal notice.
- Proficient in problem solving tools (5-why, 7-step, 8D, Drill Deep, etc.) and team facilitation.
- Good written and oral communication skills as well as a strong sense of dedication to detail and follow-up and ability and initiative to work independently.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
