Job summary

Lake Michigan Credit Union is seeking a Quality Engineer I to support automated testing for internal and third-party software within an Agile team. You will learn the automation framework, work with CI/CD pipelines, and grow toward independent ownership of test coverage.

Responsibilities include writing tests, executing manual and exploratory tests, identifying defects, and maintaining test data and documentation. Remote-friendly, full-time position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of related experience.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in CIS/CS or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Foundational experience with programming/scripting, test automation, and software testing concepts.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and SQL-based data validation.
• Experience with test automation tools and frameworks, including API, browser, and AI-driven testing solutions.

• Convert repeatable manual checks into automated coverage as skills develop.

• Prepare test data and support test environments, including installing and updating software in lower environments.
• Attend backlog refinement, sprint planning, and daily standups.
• Maintain test documentation and release validation records.

This role learns the team's automation framework, the delivery pipeline, and the applications under test, and grows toward independent ownership of test coverage for a product area. Work is assigned and reviewed by a Quality Engineer II or III, or by the Quality Engineering Manager.What you’ll do:Write and maintain automated tests within the established framework and patterns, following the standards set by senior engineers. Submit test code through version control and pull request, and act on review feedback.Execute manual, exploratory, and regression testing against acceptance criteria. Convert repeatable manual checks into automated coverage as skills develop.Identify, document, and reproduce defects. Provide clear reproduction steps, logs, and evidence sufficient for a developer to diagnose the issue, and track defects to closure.Monitor automated test runs in the CI/CD pipeline. Perform first-pass triage of failures and escalate to a senior engineer when the cause is unclear.Prepare test data and support test environments, including installing and updating software in lower environments under direction.Attend backlog refinement, sprint planning, and daily standup. Ask clarifying questions on acceptance criteria and raise testability concerns to the team.Maintain test documentation and release validation records in the tools of record.
