Job Title: Quality Engineer

Reporting To: Engineer, Project QA

Work Schedule: Onsite – Buffalo, NY

Location: East Aurora, NY

Role Summary

The Moog Defense Controls Group is recruiting a Quality Engineer to join the team in East Aurora. The Quality Engineer will plan, implement, and administer quality programs to ensure that a system is in place that meets or exceeds contractual quality requirements and protects Moog and its customers. The role will involve inspection planning, quality planning, contract compliance, project engineering, training, program support, failure analysis, personnel direction, and cost estimate preparation.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a similar STEM field with at least 3years of experience in electronics manufacturing.
  • Minimum of 2years of experience in a Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ASME Y14.5, IPC‑A‑600, IPC‑A‑610, MIL standards or other similar quality management systems (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2years of experience with:
    • Root Cause Analysis
    • Handling product or process non‑conformances in process‑oriented, mission‑critical environments
    • Working in an electronics lab environment, including protocols for ESD and FOD handling
    • Lean/Six Sigma (certification preferred)
    • AS9102 first‑article inspection report generation
    • Statistical methods for complex problem solving, continuous improvement, and process monitoring
  • Proficient user of statistical, spreadsheet, word processing, and database software packages.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Inspection Planning: Develop complex production and development inspection plans for receiving, manufacturing, assembly, test, engineering procedures, and first‑article inspections.
  • Quality Planning: Plan, develop, implement, and administer cost‑effective and complex quality programs, including traceability, contamination, and configuration control plans.
  • Contract Compliance: Ensure compliance with contract quality requirements, coordinate customer, government, and regulatory audits, and flow down contract requirements to suppliers and Moog disciplines.
  • Project Engineering: Perform non‑routine technical tasks such as product and process improvement studies and development of new systems and procedures, using SPC, regression, statistics, and Design of Experiments.
  • Training: Train and educate functional groups in Statistical Process Control, Gauge Variation, Design of Experiments, and contract‑specific quality requirements.
  • Program Support: Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, A&T, vendors, customers, and other engineering disciplines to resolve fabrication and field problems, applying creative problem‑solving approaches.
  • Failure Analysis & Corrective Action: Conduct complex failure analyses, identify root causes, and implement closed‑loop corrective actions.
  • Personnel: Provide technical direction to two or three QA technicians or associate QA engineers, prepare and administer performance reviews, and possibly lead a small group.
  • Cost Estimates: Prepare complex quality assurance proposals and cost estimates, respond to quotations and manpower loading estimates for departmental budgeting.

Salary and Funding

Salary Range Transparency (Buffalo, NY): $80,000.00–$105,000.00 annually.

Actual salaries will vary based on location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is one component of Moog’s total compensation package; other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and region‑specific benefits.
