Quality Engineer Job Responsibilities
- Own and coordinate responses to customer complaints, warranty concerns, product returns, nonconformances, and customer quality issues from initial investigation through final resolution.
- Lead structured problem-solving activities using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and other quality methodologies.
- Identify systemic causes of defects and implement sustainable Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Establish containment, corrective action, and verification plans while monitoring results to confirm long-term effectiveness.
- Partner with production, manufacturing engineering, design engineering, suppliers, and customers to resolve product and process quality concerns.
- Analyze manufacturing and quality data to identify trends, recurring issues, process variation, and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive initiatives are designed to reduce scrap, rework, defects, customer escapes, warranty issues, and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Apply statistical methods and quality tools to support data-driven manufacturing and engineering decisions.
- Conduct and support Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), process capability analysis, Cp/Cpk studies, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Monitor process performance and recommend improvements that increase stability, capability, productivity, and product conformity.
- Support the development, maintenance, and effectiveness of the organization's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve process controls, manufacturing performance, product quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, defect prevention, problem solving, and quality ownership throughout the manufacturing organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- 4+ years of Quality Engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Professional experience working with automotive quality systems and manufacturing processes.
- Strong practical knowledge of:
- IATF 16949
- Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Customer Quality Management
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA)
- 8D Problem Solving
- 5 Why Analysis
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
- Process Capability / Cp / Cpk
- Quality Data Analysis
