• Strong critical thinking, independent judgement and interpersonal skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to rotate shifts occasionally.

Responsibilities

Here, every day work is performed in a team dynamic embedded in a plant environment, where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgement. The Quality Engineer will apply their expertise in focused areas which may include Chassis, Body, Exterior, Interior, Dimensional, and/or Propulsion, with the opportunity for specialization. This role will directly contribute to maintaining and improving customer satisfaction.What You’ll Do:Independent JudgementRespond to daily project requests and prioritize workManage complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from supervisorManage emerging issues on owned commoditiesDevelop quality standards and proceduresReview nonconforming parts and sub-assemblies for proper initial disposition and root causeAnalyze data to make educated decisionsSuccessfully manage multiple projects with moderate scope and varying degrees of difficultyCritical ThinkingPerform root-cause analysis and develop and implement corrective action plansApply Red X Problem Solving Methodology and other applicable toolsPresent to Site Leaders with clear problem definition, technical guidance on complex problems, and regular updates on progressFix supplier quality and engineering issues impacting Global Customer Audit (GCA), Direct Run Rate (DRR), Warranty, and CompassCollaborationWork with production floor, product engineering, supplier-quality engineering, and/or manufacturing engineering to resolve issuesAssist production in preventing defects and recommend process improvementsCollaborate with suppliers to address SPPS’s (Supplier Practical Problem Solving) issued and ensure robust corrective actionSupport Launch of new products in the plant when applicable.Support off-shift(s) and weekend production as requiredShare Lessons Learned with Engineering to prevent repeat design or build issuesCoordinate periodic system and process audits at the plant and supplier facilitiesCoordinate engineering change implementation and assist in running PTR’s (Production Trial Runs)Support execution of all GMS (Global Manufacturing System) requirementsVisit supplier sites to ensure they are up to our standards or are putting in robust issue countermeasuresYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) :Bachelor’s Degree (preferred in Engineering or related technical field)2+ years of experience in automotive engineering, quality, manufacturing or relatedAbility to Read drawings, understand GD&T, and work with 3D Visualization SoftwareUnderstanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) or Statistical Data AnalysisStrong critical thinking, independent judgement, and interpersonal skillsEffective communicator with solid oral and written presentation skillsMust be flexible to occasionally rotate from 1st to 2nd shiftWhat Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) :Familiarity with Plant Quality systems/applications including GSIP and GEPICSFamiliarity with Engineering & Supplier Quality systems/applications including ECM, PRTS, SPPS, GQTS, TeamCenter and MPD’sFamiliarity with Engineering Change Management including ECR’s, TCR’s and parts release processesKnowledge of PPQP, APQP and PPAP requirementsSupplier audit experienceRed X Journeyman Certification and/or DFSS Green Belt CertificationPrevious experience as a Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, Design Engineer and/or Reliability EngineerGM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
