Quality Coordinator – RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, Perinatal Safety Specialists play a vital role in advancing patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical excellence across Women's Services. This role offers the opportunity to partner with physician and nursing leaders to strengthen safety initiatives, improve maternal and neonatal outcomes, and foster a culture of continuous learning and accountability. As a Perinatal Safety Specialist, you will lead quality and patient safety efforts by implementing evidence-based practices, monitoring clinical performance, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. A typical day for a Perinatal Safety Specialist may include:

  • Leading and supporting patient safety and quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes across Women's Services
  • Collaborating with the System Vice President of Women's Services, OB/GYN Department Chair, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient safety strategies
  • Monitoring, evaluating, analyzing, and reporting clinical quality metrics to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and progress toward organizational benchmarks
  • Participating in the development of quality goals, performance improvement plans, and action strategies that align with regulatory requirements and organizational priorities
  • Promoting evidence-based practice by implementing improvement strategies, measuring outcomes, and facilitating interdisciplinary quality improvement teams
  • Identifying adverse events, near misses, and patient safety concerns in collaboration with clinical leaders and supporting follow-up improvement initiatives
  • Facilitating safety briefings, debriefings, and team communication processes that promote effective collaboration and enhance patient safety
  • Supporting regulatory readiness by ensuring compliance with applicable accreditation, regulatory, and clinical practice standards governing obstetrical care
  • Coordinating and promoting educational programs, simulation training, and professional development opportunities focused on patient safety, teamwork, communication, and clinical excellence
  • Communicating lessons learned from patient safety events and quality initiatives across the organization to encourage continuous improvement and shared learning

To be considered for this Perinatal Safety Specialist opportunity,

You are passionate about advancing patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical excellence within Women's Services. You have earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (Master's degree preferred), maintain a current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license, and hold a nationally recognized nursing certification. Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification is preferred. You bring five to seven years of progressively responsible clinical nursing experience in obstetrics, along with strong leadership, communication, and project management skills. Experience with quality improvement, patient safety principles, regulatory standards, and evidence-based practice is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required to support data analysis, reporting, and presentation of quality initiatives.
