Position Overview:

We are seeking a Ready-Mix Quality Control Technician to join our team in the Capital District region. This role is crucial for ensuring the production of top-quality ready-mix concrete while maintaining regulatory compliance and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Work safely, complying with all OSHA and MSHA regulations and Callanan environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform quality control testing as required by state and local agencies, private entities, and in accordance with Callanan procedures to ensure high-quality materials.
  • Communicate and provide test data to plant managers and relevant personnel promptly.
  • Familiarize with various mix and aggregate specifications, providing process and mix adjustment recommendations as needed.
  • Maintain current State agency QC/QA certifications, uphold the quality control program, and stay compliant with agency specifications.
  • Keep accurate and current database and record logs.
  • Support internal customers (sales, construction, estimating, operations, senior management) and external customers by reviewing and providing detailed material specifications and test results.
  • Monitor HMA pavement quality during installation on specific projects.
  • Measure temperature, thickness, density, and overall condition of pavements during installation.
  • Determine density using a density meter and calibrate the meter.
  • Obtain core specimens per applicable methodology.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
  • Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to interpret specifications, reports, manuals, and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out standardized laboratory tests.
  • Effective problem evaluation and seeking assistance when needed.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and occasional night shifts.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Pre-employment screening required.
  • Ability to perform various duties, often switching between different tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical demands include bending, kneeling, squatting, lifting, climbing, standing, walking, reaching, and fine motor activities.
  • Lifting and moving up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to irritants, chemicals, noise, dust, vibration, and irritating atmospheres.
  • Noise level is usually loud to very loud.
  • Work conditions include hot, cold, wet weather, and exposure to moving equipment and others.

  • Hourly pay rate of $21-23 based on experience.
