About the Role:

UPS Industrial Services is seeking a skilled Industrial Mechanical Quality Control (QC) Technician to support our operations in the petrochemical and industrial sectors. This role ensures all work meets the highest standards of quality and compliance by performing inspections, verifying documentation, and supporting field operations. The QC Technician plays a critical role in upholding UPSIS's reputation for safety, precision, and excellence.

You will be responsible for reading and interpreting P&IDs, isometric drawings, and other technical documents. The role includes ensuring adherence to client, company, and regulatory requirements; overseeing weld and flange tracking; monitoring welder certifications and NDE requirements; and maintaining safety compliance in the field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all assigned project areas meet quality standards and documentation requirements (client, company, and regulatory).
  • Track welds/flanges, maintain welder certifications/performance records, and verify NDE and Code work compliance.
  • Prepare, compile, and organize flange, weld, and material documentation for project turnover.
  • Interpret and verify MTRs, NDE reports (RT, MT, UT, PT), and pipeline industry coating requirements.
  • Assist with punch list development, weld mapping, flange mapping, and job log maintenance.
  • Evaluate flanged connections for conformance to B31.3 Surface Imperfections and B16.5/B16.47 dimensional tolerances.
  • Witness, evaluate, and document assembly/testing of heat exchangers, piping systems, towers, reactors, and column internals/externals.
  • Oversee pressure testing of piping systems and vessels, verifying compliance with specifications and safety standards.
  • Support project team in technical discussions with client engineering and relay key information to UPSIS field personnel.
  • Ensure adherence to UPS Industrial Services and OSHA/ANSI safety standards, including proper PPE usage.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, promoting a culture of safe work practices.
  • Maintain working knowledge of ASME B31.4/B31.8, API 1104, and API RP 1110 requirements.
  • Lead by example with above-average leadership skills and effective communication.
  • Coordinate with clients, supervisors, and field personnel to ensure quality and compliance goals are met.
  • Train, mentor, and support team members as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable inspection experience in petrochemical, industrial maintenance/turnaround, or related industries.
  • Proficiency in reading P&IDs, isometric drawings, and piping/instrument diagrams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Basic math skills to solve field problems.
  • Valid TWIC card, drug screen, background check, and ability to pass physical and PFT/FIT test.
  • Reliable transportation to/from job sites.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended or irregular hours as project needs dictate.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively depending on project size.
Preferred Knowledge/Certifications:
  • UPSIS Level II Certification - VT, PT, MT (or equivalent current certifications).
  • Familiarity with pipeline coating requirements and reporting standards.
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, flange management, and related industrial services.
