Job summary

Apex Water and Process Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Technician in Minnesota to ensure the quality of engineered products through inspections and thorough documentation.

The role supports QA activities from incoming materials to finished goods and collaborates with Engineering, Production and QEHS to identify quality risks. Responsibilities include performing inspections, managing ITPs, supporting welder qualification, and ensuring compliance with AWS/ASME (Section IX) and ISO 9001

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience with quality testing methods, inspection equipment, manufacturing documentation, or related quality assurance/quality control activities.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, GA drawings, electrical prints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, inspection and test plans, work instructions, and customer specifications.
• Working knowledge of inspection methods and tools used to verify material, fabricated component, weldment, assembly, and finished product conformance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications used to maintain electronic inspection records, documentation packets, and quality documentation trackers.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with production, engineering, scheduling, vendors, and QEHS team members.
• Ability to travel to the Chanhassen office, as needed, to support quality control activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform incoming, in-process, FAT, and final inspections of engineered products, fabricated assemblies, materials, and components using P&IDs, GA drawings, electrical prints, weld symbols, customer specifications, and project quality requirements.
• Manage project quality documentation and Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) requirements, including MTRs, material certifications and traceability, inspection records, weld documentation, hold/witness points, approvals, and customer‑required documentation.
• Support welder qualification, certification, and continuity records in accordance with applicable AWS and/or ASME Section IX requirements.
• Coordinate, perform, or support required testing, including Positive Material Identification (PMI), hydrostatic/pneumatic pressure testing, and applicable NDE activities; review results and maintain required records.
• Verify and document applicable code, customer, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage nonconforming products and NCRs, including documenting issues, facilitating Root Cause Analysis, supporting quality investigations, and verifying corrective and preventive actions.
• Communicate quality findings and discrepancies with Production, Engineering, suppliers, and other stakeholders, ensuring quality requirements and required hold/witness points are maintained while driving timely resolution.
• Support the development and continuous improvement of quality procedures, inspection guidelines, documentation standards, and project quality requirements; maintain calibration requirements for inspection and testing equipment.
• Participate in quality and safety inspections and audits to support compliance with ISO 9001, customer specifications, regulatory requirements, company HSE standards, and quality objectives.
• Adhere to and support all safety policies and guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

The Quality Control Technician helps ensure the quality and compliance of engineered products and fabricated assemblies through inspections, testing, and accurate documentation. This role supports quality activities throughout the production process—from incoming materials and in-process inspections through FAT and inspection of finished goods. This position also involves conducting project‑specific inspection requirements per standard and custom ITPs and maintaining inspection records such as in process inspections, documenting welding quality per ASME standards through collection of, MTRs, PMI testing, welder certifications, and other project specified quality documentation. Working closely with Engineering, Production and QEHS, this position helps identify quality risks, verify conformance, and ensure customer and project requirements are met. Maintaining an eye for defect trends and relating these findings into continuous improvement opportunities through collaboration with multiple departments is also a key activity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of experience with quality testing methods, inspection equipment, manufacturing documentation, or related quality assurance/quality control activities.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, GA drawings, electrical prints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, inspection and test plans, work instructions, and customer specifications.
• Working knowledge of inspection methods and tools used to verify material, fabricated component, weldment, assembly, and finished product conformance.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate, complete, and well‑organized inspection records, documentation trackers, and project quality files.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications used to maintain electronic inspection records, documentation packets, and quality documentation trackers.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with production, engineering, scheduling, vendors, and QEHS team members — including the ability to hold a position on a quality issue under schedule pressure without damaging working relationships.
• Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated problem‑solving abilities, including a proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability and willingness to travel to the Chanhassen office, as needed, to support quality control activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate's degree in Quality, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Quality assurance/control experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or welding environment; experience with pressure vessels, tanks, skids, or piping systems.
• Experience with quality and project documentation, including ITPs, MTRs, material traceability, welding documentation, inspection records, and/or customer turnover packages.
• Familiarity with applicable quality and fabrication standards, including ISO 9001 and AWS/ASME codes, as well as pressure testing and basic NDE/NDT methods.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or progress toward certification.
• Experience with QMS software and/or water treatment equipment

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The anticipated pay range for this position is between $24- $30/hr, depending on qualifications and experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
