Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with 1–3 months related experience.
  • AAS in civil engineering desirable or equivalent.
  • ACI Test Technician certification desirable or training provided.
  • Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and an acceptable driving record.
  • MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook knowledge.
  • Some tasks may require wearing a half mask respirator per OSHA 1910.134(g)(1)(i).

Role Overview:

This is a seasonal position; you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year-round.

This position is responsible for collecting, preparing, testing, analyzing, and documenting samples to determine content and characteristics. Test samples using laboratory apparatus and testing equipment, then enter findings in the computer database. This person must excel in customer service through face-to‑face interaction and phone calls with various customers, be able to sell or offer advice on available products, and ticket or weigh trucks in a timely manner.

Typical schedule is Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Schedules may vary depending on weather and customer demand.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing of Company’s products from various locations according to State and/or ASTM standards.
  • Work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  • Enter, read, and comprehend data in the database. Training if necessary.
  • Multi‑task effectively.
  • Work varied hours; limited travel potentially necessary.
  • Answer the phone and sell various products offered by Knife River.
  • Data entry of orders and necessary information into a computer system.
  • Assist customers that walk in or call.
  • Weigh and ticket trucks in a timely manner.
  • Calculate quantities of materials needed for customer needs.
  • Perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Apply common sense to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions.
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and under time constraints.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and one to three months related experience and/or training.
  • AAS degree in civil engineering desirable, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • ACI Test Technician certification desirable or will train.
  • Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and an acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook software.
  • Some tasks may require wearing a half mask respirator; must meet OSHA guidelines based on 1910.134(g)(1)(i).
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights, and some Saturdays.
