Job summary

Knife River in North Dakota seeks a seasonal Loader Operator to feed conveyors, maintain loaders, and ensure safe loading of trucks. Typical schedule is eleven days on, 6:00 AM–6:00 PM, followed by three days off.

Benefits continue year-round, with opportunities to travel during winters. Responsibilities include daily inspections, lubrication, fueling, and maintaining safe operations, plus material blending and site upkeep.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with equipment operation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily equipment walk-around and site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and maintain equipment.
• Lubricate, fuel, and clean loader; maintain three points of contact during maintenance.
• Safely operate loader and ensure bucket/attachments are lowered when leaving equipment.
• Load trucks with driver in sight and communicate for safe loading.
• Load trucks up to legal hauling weight limit.
• Identify materials to meet job specs and adjust blends as needed.
• Maintain smooth haul roads and contaminant-free piles.
• Inspect material quality and check gradation and contaminants.
• Keep pit floor smooth and haul roads maintained; assist with spills.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

This is a seasonal position, you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year round.

This position is responsible to operate and maintain loader to feed conveyors, hoppers or load trucks.

The typical schedule is eleven days on 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM and then three days off.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job) An asterisk (*) indicates essential job functions that cannot be modified in order to fulfill the job requirements.

1. Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
2. Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) on loader. Maintain 3 points of contact at all times while performing maintenance activities.
3. Safely and properly operate loader. Make sure bucket/attachments are lowered to ground whenever leaving the equipment.
4. Load trucks with driver in sight to communicate and ensure safe loading procedure.
5. Load trucks up to legal hauling weight limit
6. Identify appropriate material to produce quality aggregate material per job specifications. Communicate with other personnel and make required adjustments to material blends.
7. Maintain smooth, level haul roads
8. Maintain contaminate free aggregate piles
9. Inspect material - check gradation quality, oversize rocks, contaminants
10. Keep pit floor smooth & haul roads maintained
11. May keep concrete plant fed for maximum production
12. Check for spillage on plant floor and clean up daily (assist with shoveling spillage)
13. Check for worn out flashing on plant that could lead to spillage
14. May maintain the left over concrete that is dumped out at the plant
15. Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.
16. Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
17. Ensure OSHA, MSHA, EPA, DNR, lockout/tagout, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements):
