Base pay range

$70,000.00/yr - $90,000.00/yr

Human Resources Manager at Wiley Companies

We are seeking an experienced Quality Control Laboratory Manager! This leadership role is integral to maintaining our high standards of quality and compliance. We are looking for an analytical and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in laboratory management and quality control processes.

This position will oversee daily laboratory operations ensuring testing protocols are completed safely, accurately, and timely. Train and manage laboratory technician staff. Ensure laboratory equipment and supplies are maintained to industry standards.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports directly to Director of Quality

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related technical field

3-5 years of related experience in a testing laboratory environment

Experience with ERP and LIMS software, Agilent ChemStation and OpenLab

Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations:
  1. Oversee laboratory personnel and daily testing operations to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
  2. Manage sample workflow, ensuring timely completion of raw material, intermediate, and finished product testing.
  3. Maintain compliance with industry certifications and regulatory standards.
  4. Train and mentor laboratory technicians to ensure competency and professional growth.
  5. Develop and implement structured onboarding and training programs for new hires.
  6. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the lab.
Method Implementation and Validation:
  1. Collaborate with R&D and quality teams to implement and validate analytical methods for omega-3 concentrates, dietary supplements, and custom chemical products.
  2. Ensure lab supports the scaling of new products or process changes through robust testing methodologies.
Process Improvement:
  1. Identify and implement opportunities to enhance lab efficiency and effectiveness, including automation and digital solutions.
  2. Benchmark industry practices to adopt best-in-class quality systems.
Regulatory Compliance:
  1. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  2. Maintain accurate calibration and maintenance records for all testing equipment affecting quality results.
Data Management and Reporting:
  1. Oversee data integrity and adherence to good documentation practices (GDP).
  2. Trend and report laboratory data to facilitate effective communication across internal departments.
  3. Utilize and maintain Data Parsing System.
  4. Provide actionable recommendations based on data analysis to improve product quality and reduce risks.
  5. Investigate and confirm out of spec results. Clearly communicate to supervisor.
Inventory and Vendor Management:
  1. Maintain adequate inventory of lab supplies and reagents while optimizing costs.
  2. Approve and qualify vendors for laboratory consumables and services.
Technology and Instrumentation:
  1. Evaluate and recommend new technologies or instruments to improve lab capabilities.
  2. Manage service contracts and calibration schedules for advanced equipment such as HPLCs, GCs, and other analytical systems.
Crisis and Risk Management:
  1. Lead lab readiness for crisis situations, including contamination events or significant out-of-spec results.
  2. Conduct risk assessments of lab operations and implement mitigation plans.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  1. Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Ability to effectively interface with all departments.
  3. Computer Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required.
  4. Demonstrate good judgment while multi-tasking, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  5. Detail oriented, organized, efficient, and proactive.
  6. High level of accountability and flexibility.
  7. High level of self-confidence, professional grooming and demeanor, positive, self-starter and high degree of emotional stamina.
  8. Strong analytical and quantitative skills.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to walk, climb stairs, ladders, sit for extended periods, use hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee may need to occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Travel Requirements:

Travel is not expected in this position.

Shift and Hours:

The position is a salary position with Monday-Friday daytime shift.
