Job summary

Daybreak Independent Services, Inc. is seeking a QA Specialist in Bronx, NY to support the agency’s Quality Assurance and Compliance Program. You'll conduct audits, monitor documentation, track corrective actions, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

The role reports to the Quality Assurance Coordinator, is full-time, with a Monday–Friday, 40-hour schedule. Salary ranges from $26.00 to $28.00 per hour, with benefits including health and life insurance, and retirement and tuition

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in social work preferred or 1 year in human services.
• OPWDD experience is preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to get along with staff at all levels.
• Flexible and able to work beyond regular hours when required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Access).

Responsibilities

• Track monthly document submissions from each program site and prepare the quality report.
• Quality-check external submissions from care managers and generate reports.
• Document findings and coordinate with QA supervisor for corrections.
• File and archive submissions in EVERO or scanning as needed.
• Create and update charts for new individuals and archive old records.
• Perform quality checks on daily transportation attendance and report discrepancies.

In 2010, Daybreak Independent Services opened its doors for individuals with developmental disabilities to learn and apply their skills in a traditional work setting. Since then, Daybreak has expanded its mission to multiple locations adding both people and additional services. DBIS Serves hundreds of New Yorkers living with developmental disabilities. Partnerships with local businesses like Stew Leonard, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls have allowed the vision to grow exponentially. In addition, taking on residential programs has allowed us to serve those that need round‑the‑clock supervision.

Position Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist is responsible for supporting the agency's Quality Assurance and Compliance Program by conducting audits, monitoring documentation, reviewing service delivery practices, tracking corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and agency regulations. The QA Specialist works collaboratively with program leadership to promote continuous quality improvement and person‑centered services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Education & Experience

• Associate Degree in social work preferred or 1 year in human services, special education, related field.
• One year of direct experience working in Developmental Disabilities, adult service programs (day and residential) preferred. Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) experience is preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to get along well with co‑workers and many levels of administrative, management, and direct support staff
• Capable of working under pressure and deadlines
• Responsive to supervision
• Flexibility and a strong work ethic; willing to take on additional tasks and work beyond regular work hours when required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Tracks monthly document submission from each program site, conducts quality checks, and prepares the quality report.
• Track and perform quality check of the external document submissions from the care managers such as LCED and Life Plan generate quality check reports.
• Document the findings from all quality checks and submit the information to the QA supervisor for approval before sending it to the program and/or care managers for correction. Follow‑up as needed.
• Assist QA Supervisor in filing the document submissions in the binder and/or scanning them in the agency electronic database (EVERO) as needed.
• Create new charts for the new incoming individuals, archive the discharged and old documents, and update the charts as needed.
• Perform quality checks on daily transportation attendance and communicate any discrepancy to the Supervisor and/or transportation department as needed.
• Assist the QA team with third‑party document retrieval.
• Assist QA team in audits and billing quarterly, such as HIPAA, quality audits, and billing audits as per DOH/OPWDD/OMIG regulations.
• Assist QA supervisor with a quality check on billing and vendor reports, and prepare reports of the findings while communicating any discrepancies with the team.
• Communicate effectively with the program supervisor/coordinator as needed.
• Participate in OPWDD training when requested.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
